I had a 6300b with horrible reception a few weeks ago after I had replaced the casing on it. Took it apart completely again, didn't notice anything obviously wrong. So, I put it back together, and it has worked great ever since.

I'd suggest returning it to who you bought it from. If that's not possible, try rebuilding it yourself (http://www.formymobile.co.uk/6300disassembly.php)... if that still doesn't help, throw it against a wall a couple times?

Thanks for the info, I will be getting a replacement, this one is unusable indoors.

I have a FIDO locked 6300, can I call FIDO to find out how to debrand it? Will FIDO tell me the answer?

If that was the way to proceed, we wouldn't have this discussion...

Debranding/unlocking requires special software/hardware and I doubt Fido will simply say "hey, why don't you come by and we'll do it for free"...

But we never know, the worst you can get is a No... and call 1-888-259-FIDO (or 1-800, not sure; that's the customer retention center, they might be of better help)

Hey everyone.

So I just got my FIDO branded 6300 unlocked and then I did a factory reset with NSS to enable mp3 ringtones. It seems somewhere in the process I lost the '#' key silent feature. *#0000# yields:

Nokia 6300
V 04.71
28-02-07
RM-217
(c) Nokia.

Language:
V 04.71
28-02-07
RM-217
(c) Nokia.
N

It seems that some people have this feature working with mp3 ringtones. Can anyone tell me exactly what the problem is here?

Is there a combination of product codes and NSU updates that works reliably to give me both '#' silent key and mp3 ringtones? I don't want to compromise any reception quality though - the phone is great as it is and I wouldn't want to risk anything to just to fix this minor annoyance.

Thanks!

You are running a very outdated firmware. Nokia attempted to fix this bug with later firmware versions (although the NA market never got these updated version).

There is lots of information in this thread about what product codes to use, and how to update, etc. Read before you post... the info is already there.

Hey guys, I used NSS to reset to factory, the phone now shows 217 but when I insert a Rogers SIM it gives "Phone Restricted" error msg and asks for a Security Code

How do I get by this?

Thanks

None of the debranding methods, including a full firmware flash, will unlock your phone. The BB5 chip which restricts the phone is completely seperate. BB5 (the chip used in newer nokia phones) unlocking methods are still in their infancy in comparison to Dct4 and Dct3 (the chips used in older nokia phones).

If you want to unlock the phone yourself, you can try the software method, but you'll need a datacable which supports FBUS, e.g. DKU-5. Otherwise, you can look for a local company that can look up the unlock code for you, or use a bb5 box to unlock the phone.

Further discussion of unlocking phones is beyond the scope of this thread, and you should seek help elsewhere.

What are you trying to accomplish by debranding? Keep in mind it will NOT unlock your phone; that is a completely different process.

The chance of bricking if you use NNS and NSU should be fairly minimal, I haven't heard of any problems so far.

Hiya!
Thanks for replying so fast.
I just want to use my music as ringtones and alarm tones, not lose any apps and not get bricked! Thats all

... what is bricking anyway? will i get into trouble with fido if somthing goes haywire?

Bricking means that your phone is... well... as useful as a brick.

However, if you can get a copy of Nokia Phoenix you can flash your phone even if it is bricked. Don't ask for a link however.

or, you can just take your phone to fido and say one day it just stopped turning on. They'll re-flash it, or replace it; if they notice you changed the RM ID, you can just play dumb.

would I still have to be covered under warrenty for Fido to fix my phone?
...should i try the de-branding? or take it to somone that knows what theyre doing?
*sighs* why does fido have to be such a pain!

Your choice; depends on how interested you are in the process. If you want to learn, then go ahead and do it yourself; read what you can find and tread slowly, it'll go fine.

Fido's warranty probably isn't even voided by doing a product code change with NSS; and even if it was, it's highly doubtful anybody would notice if you did return it under warranty.

Anyway, 6300b's are easy to for around $100; it's not exactly a big risk.
