(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: janpan

Hello all,

Just wondering if someone can give me step-by-step instructions on how to change the housing of a 903sh.

and/or..

Can someone recommend me to a person/place located in the GTA that will be able to do the housing change.

Thanks!

do you have a 5 star screw driver? I would recomend getting one first, there is a seller from singapore that has them on ebay and ships internationally.
Also have needles on hand to remove any of the screw covers.

I am not that good at being in depth, but I can try to write down what I basically did. I have some pictures, most are posted in the housing thread on what I did to take mine apart.

But I would recomend starting with the easiest part first, the top flip, using the you need to use the needles to remove the covers like the earpiece and vodafone cover, then using 5 star screw driver, remove the top screws and the two outer ones, you can then take the two inner ones off, be careful taking the inner screen housing off if you plan on replacing it, if it is not in bad condition, I recomend keeping the old one. If you do replace the inner portion, you need to also make sure you swap the ear piece from the old housing to the new one if it does not have the ear piece.

base of the phone, that you need to unscrew the parts under the battery cover. Then using the needles lightly pull off the plastic covers neara the hinge area, you can unscrew those screws off. Also using the needle, there is cover that typically gets scratched up from the hinge, just lightly pull that off, there are screws holding that. Unscrew them. You should be able to pull that off, if not I believe you can start to slowly pull off the bottom housing which conists of the side trim and camera lens cover and then the portion with the two back screws. MAKE SURE YOU EXAMINE BOTH HOUSINGS, SOME MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE THE ANTENNA and various parts, compare them both and swap what ever is neccessary into the new housing, if you dont you will not get reception.

From there, do you want to replace the keypad housing? I am not sure here, cant remember, but I think you may want to remove the top hinge portion, so turn the screen and see two rectangles, use the needles to pull them off, then you can use your fingers to take the hinge covers off. MAKE SURE IF YOU CHANGE THEM, LOOK FOR THE SMALL MAGNET AND PUT IT IN THE HOUSING, if not you will have problems iwth the camera rotation.

back to the keypad housing, i believe the top hinge is removed, you can slowly just pry off the keypad cover. When you take it off, MAKE SURE YOU SWAP THE THE MICS, TWO ROUND BLACK PIECES, or people cannot hear you. You will see them when you compare both the old and the new housings.

Pretty much how to take apart a 903sh, to put it back everything is reverse of the isntallation, and usually falls into place. I can probably answer questions on it if I am not clear enough, since I suck at explaining things clearly

I also posted a thread on the site with photos and I have a pdf of it too if you want it.

ahh.. Ok. Looks and sounds a little scary to do it on my own. Can anyone recommend a REPUTABLE place in the GTA that will be able to do this for me?

Is it really this complicated to just swap the colours of the housing (black for white)?? That's basically all i want to do, so this entire process just seems so complicated for that... :S Cause someone was asking me if what I wanted was a "full housing change"... I'd assume so, but the way the guy asked what I wanted made it seem like there were other options...

903sh is not a nokia 3360. no switchable faceplates. if you want to walk away with no scratches on your handset, just leave it alone unless you're truly skilled

you got your 902sh housing from the uk too?

I've done the 902sh and 903sh, for me it wasnt too bad, its the screws near the battery I hate the most.

i have no clue where the housing came from. im just glad the old housing is gone. i tried to paint the phone white cause sketchi did it before (not sure if you remember him) i couldnt remember which screw goes where- it was chaotic. if sharp made the phones hard to take apart i say we just listen to them

You can tell where your housing came from by seeing if the side of the housing says Vodafone 902SH - if it doesn't say the Japanese model name like this, then it's not Japanese. The Euro Sharp 903 (not the Japanese 903SH) has nothing on the side, but I'm not sure about the Euro Sharp 902. It's probably similar.

Euro Sharp 902 also doesn't have a model name written at all.

Posted by: Junglizt1210

my thoughts confirmed... thats how you tell, sclaz.

Posted by: sclaz21

i have "vodafone 902sh" written on the side & i have euro fw. but i ve always had that model name on the side 0.o
wow and i didnt realize how big my 902sh is until now. makes n95 feel small

anyways how are you danny- still in hk?

Posted by: azn_boi_128

he's always at hk lol

the link to the pdf for the change of housing is down. any kind soul can send me thru mail? or upload again?

Posted by: Kevbodian

careful with the screwdrivers on ebay tho... lots of them are T6 drivers that have been filed down.

the sharp screws are roughly a T5.5

Posted by: aw614

this is the screwdriver that works

do you guys happen to have the pdf file that shows the dismantling and assembly of the 903sh on hand now?

Posted by: martindesu

send me a PM with your email and I will email it to you.

I also have a load of photos somewhere on the site of me doing a disassembly. Look it up as they're useful too.
