i am going to university in the fall and i really want a great pda. can anyone tell me all the plus and minus', sweet features, down falls, screw ups of the HTC TyTN before i get it under rogers.

PS

is ordering it on rogers online a good idea?

Well, what exactly are you looking for in a PDA/PPC? You really need to ask yourself these questions before you look into a phone, especially one like this one.

i want a great camera, something to take memo's on, and keep me organized. personalizing it is a huge issue, i love making my own ring tones. and because i am a normal teenage girl, there will be tons.. and tons.. of file sharing/texting.

plus, from what i saw.. i really love the look and style of it, i love the idea of a qwerty keyboard, and the fact that its touchtone, but it's not required to use the stylus because there are so many accessible buttons.

try calling the CSR's instead of ordering online, usually they can swing extra stuff like free shipping and waiving admin fees, possibly a discount on the phone above what you can get just based on your plan.

in regards to the phone i got one 2 days ago. and i love it. i went from an ipaq 6315 pda phone which is bigger and has a larger screen (same resolution tho 320x240). the HTC kicks its butt.

pro's:
small size, slightly larger than a SE S710a (wider, same thickness)
light up qwerty keyboard
fast processor 400 mhz (overclockable)
beatuiful bright screen
customizeable, its WM5, so lotsa themes available or make your own
ringtones, plays anything you put in the ringtone folder
can be charged via any mini USB cable
using Core media player, multimedia is awesome. videos are smooth, speaker is nice and loud.
reception is great on rogers
phone has video conferencning (when available) capabilities. 2 cameras!
picture caller id is nice
wifi, BT, IRDA ensures connectivity on the road
mulitple buttons everywhere allow 1 handed (no stylus)operation

Cons:
proprietary headphones. uses a USB like jack. replacing headphones is not an option unless adapter is used (same port as used for charging)
Micro SD, not enough storage, 2GB max at present. i used a 4GB SD card on my ipaq. not enough IMO.tiny memory card will be easy to lose.
very recessed screen. hard to use touchscreen with fingers near edges. i have large hands.
reciever volume not loud enough IMO
stylus is TINY, only 2" but comes with 2, so if you lose it you wont cry.
user manual is online only (PDF), not included
***EDIT: the stylus extends like a radio antenna!!! cool!!!****

my CONS list is mostly personal preferences. operation wise the phone is brilliant and rock solid.
*ill edit when i think of more

I have to agree with the previous poster. I won't be upgrading from my 8525 to anything else for a LONG time.

The one thing I am worried about is some somewhat flaky WiFi reception, but I suspect that may be because I dropped it

Other than that I have precisely zero complaints. The machine is a superstar, and with WM6 I think it will be an even brighter superstar

wow thats awesome, thanx guys! and luckily i have relitively small hands, and how did you know i would cry if i lost the stylus? where would i get skins and cases for it? i live in a hick town and ordering anything is mainly taboo when it comes to net, i am lucky i can even do the phone.

I've been through a few phones in the past 6 months trying to find the right one for me. When I finally got the tytn in my hands i knew this was the one to keep(for a while) because it has EVERYTHING i need.

if i were to upgrade it would be to the new htc kaiser http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733 but as of now it's a little too pricey.

I would recommend waiting till August or so and dropping $$ on Kaiser if you can spend a lil extra. Kaiser is a serious upgrade to TyTN.
