because att/cingular is a ***** about it and doesnt allow nokia's nsu to detect n75 and e62s.

Does that apply for unbranded N75s?

PPL? What's that? I'm guessing it is a license of some sort. I'm a Symbian newbie, so please go easy on me. Like a *******, I ordered an unbranded N75 and I'm thinking I should have held out for an N95.

I think he meant "people."

Why not return it and get the Nokia N73? It's a better phone overall and it's about $350. The only thing the N75 has on the N73 is that it's a fllip phone versus candy bar.

I was just about to ninja edit my post to mention the US 3G part

I was also going to say that probably isn't that important of a feature to him if he was going to get the N95 since it doesn't have US 3G support.. unless he didn't know about that

Posted by: angel_wing0

that u gotta ask the op himself

That's true

To the OP: Congrats on your N75 and enjoy!

Posted by: angel_wing0

indeed, sad that he has to go to a vendor to flash his phone.

What was the answer to this? Can you use the NSU on unbranded N75s?

no it wouldnt work.

Posted by: wakajawaka

Not so sure that it wouldn't..... NSU works by product code, and there are product codes out there for generic (unbranded) phones. I don't know specifically about the N75 but it's certainly worth checking in to.

thats what i thought as well, but someone with an unbranded n75 confirmed what i said before already

Posted by: Topsales

The newest version of NSU finds the unbranded N75, but there is no updates available. It asks if I want to reinstall the firmware, but the reinstall icon is grayed out. So far my firmware version is the most up to date, according to NSU. My phone's version is higher numbered than the branded firmware.

IMO, you may be able to flash the branded versions to unbranded. If someone wants to try change the product code I can give them the one off my phone and they can try.

Posted by: angel_wing0

^ thats GREAT news

Posted by: bigroy

whats the code and how do i enter it

Posted by: Topsales

Try this product code in nss: 0541358.

Sorry, I guess my email notificaiton failed. Anyway, the above is correct, I am able to connect to NSU and it recognizes the phone...just waiting for a new firmware version. So far, very happy with the phone but 2 complaints:

-No option for TIMED profile like with every other Nokia I've had in the last 7 years.

-Clock could be muich BIGGER and clearer, given all the free space on the 2nd display.

Posted by: angel_wing0

if that really works, i should get myself one also

Does the generic have AD2P I want it!

I can't say for sure, but the sound was the same as corded headphones when I used the Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headset, which leads me to believe that it might. I looked in the owner's manual and it doesn't say a whole lot about Bluetooth profiles. The headset took a little getting used to, but after initial adjustment it is comfortable and the built-in controls work great. It felt great to cut the cord!

anyone know a definite answer if the n75 can be firmware upgraded to add hsdpa in the future? or is that impossible due to the hardware.

also i can go back ad get the n75 for 99 bucks. could i just switch between that and the 6131 with no problems? when i tried the n75 a couple weeks ago, the 6131 would not access data or mms when i put the 3g sim into that phone. i want an s60 phone 3g for the US, but having a really hard time with no hsdpa. how many people still love their n75?

also, i want to unbrand it. has there been a solution to unbrand the att version yet?

It is a hardware issue. No HSDPA on current units.

I love my N75. Of course, I may love it because it is unbranded. It is fast in 3g areas and OK in EDGE areas. I do notice a difference in speeds.

No option on unbranding yet. I have given my product code to others and they have tried to update the firmware, but they said it didn't work.

Posted by: angel_wing0

thinking about it, is the 3g worth it seriously? thinking of it, i m not a data user...

well i tether when traveling for work, so yes its actually the most important thing to me in a phone. if hsdpa would flag me as a tetherer and i would have to upgrade, then i would rather stick with 3g. but the idea of upgrading from edge to 3g doesnt give me that "ahhh" factor at all. whats the point? i am so torn right now.

see i am wanting the unbranded version as well. last night my problems could have been solved easier if i could switch between gsm and 3g. i am on a fringe area, and the phone couldnt handle the switching and rebooted about 6 times in 5 minutes. but i aint got the money to drop 300 bucks right now. what to do...

and are you saying that no hsdpa could be added in the future? i dont understand that a 3g phone cant support a 3g feature of hsdpa. the problem i'm having is there are no other phones coming out that look good and have s60 OS and are for the US. so its like i am stuck with month-to-month with unbranded n75, or stick with the cingular n75 which kinda blows.

Here is good news for people who want to unbrand their N75s:
http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...50&postcount=64
Remember, you need to unlock the phone first!
On my unbranded unit I can tell the phone to stay on 3g, stay on GSM or use both as needed.

Posted by: angel_wing0

damn i so want to try a unlocked cingualr/att one now

Posted by: RogerPodacter

no dont think so.

Posted by: angel_wing0

yea not anymore
