now if they released the P1a i would be all over that

Posted by: ajpprc

Yeah, tell me about it. What's up with the lack of love from SE?

Posted by: ExOrCizT

i think they just hate the US.......

Posted by: tkao2025

I also think US carriers shun Nokia and SE.....Motorola and Samsung seem to have the US Carrier's in their pocket. You see very few Nokia and SE phone being picked up.

Posted by: skaquixotic

who's interested in a friendly release date pool? considering how long it took the p990 i think i'm going to go with october 2008.

i was excited about this announcement initially before i realized that there will be 2 or 3 new generations of N phones, and likely a new generation of the iPhone before this sees the light of day.

Posted by: maq28

I don't think so , P990 and M600 merged together . They will relase it Q3 07
nothing major in HW .

Posted by: break-r

read the review on gsmarena.
looks nice but if its got an uncomfortable keypad, thats a big no no

plus no 850mhz..

Posted by: AdmiralAK

Yet another SE disappointment...no love for NA!

Posted by: 2SHY

Review from GSMArena http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_p1-review-143.php

Posted by: pinksteady

Looks just like my sort of thing, will prob get this phone. I've had N80 for a year now, and have really enjoyed all the messing with different bits of software on Series 60v3, but after a year I don't use any of that stuff and just want a coolio phone that plays music, takes photos and has a touchscreen! Wifi is a serious bonus too, and the blurb says the battery on the P1 is pretty good. So for me it's between the P1 or N95, and I'm tired of slow Nokia menus and poor battery life when using music/wifi etc. Think I'm going to wait for the P1, my last SE was the T68i!

Posted by: L Bo

http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...ne=pp&pid=10864

I am SO disappointed! Is this the best SE can do? Still no EDGE or 3G!!

The P990i will most likely be my last phone. With Apple making iPhones, by the time the 2nd or 3rd generation comes out, they may be on to something!

Posted by: thedon

huh? the p1 is a 3g phone, even ure p990 is a 3g phone. if the p1 ever gets picked up by a us provider, i'm sure they will change the umts frequency to whatever it is that usa uses.... and if you want to compare a phone to the iphone, the w960 is a much better comparison

Posted by: Prom1

They will NOT change the 3G frequency! Not until Tmobile USA finally goes nationwide with its 1700/2100Mhz 3G service and has the numbers to show for it. For Cingular 3G compatible 3G SE phone just look at the upcoming Z760 & K850i.

L Bo! You shouldn't be looking at the P1i as a replacement for the P990. Its like the P910 was to the P900.

Are you sure you're not salivating over the 3.2MP Camera+AutoFocus+LED?
How about the 128MB ROM & 256MB RAM?
What say you to "hopefully" faster bootup, app loading times?
BEST yet, no more OUT OF MEMORY crashing situations.

I'm beginning to like the P1i but its much more power than I need.

I'm considering just going to the W580 for now, then in mid fall to either the W960 - a P1i in disguise no qwerty, or the Dopod C730 for messaging joy.

Posted by: Sfkn2

I don't see anyone wrong with the P1. Heck, the P990i is a very nice phone, still.

Posted by: L Bo

My apologizes! I re read the description after I posted by didnt edit.

I still wont be picking up a new SE anything after I'm done with my p990. I'm still on the fence about my iphone and waiting to see if the little things that bother me will pan out or I'll just return it.

Time will tell....

Posted by: manchuia

I can't imagine any UIQ owner would jump on the P1i until a massive amount of long term reviews come out. I opted not to buy a UIQ device and I am even a little "gun shy" despite the fact that the P1i is the phone I was waiting for (M600i with a competent camera).

I don't care what the stat sheets say, Sony is mostly 0 for 3 with it's UIQ 3 devices (I can maybe say 1 for 3 as the M600i after a number of firmware updates seems "stable" according to all the posts I have read), and, I agree with L Bo, if the supposed Apple updates become true, then the iphone might actually be a good choice.

Posted by: L Bo

Well the P1i just got less attractive cause now I have my IM's working and the keyboard is starting to come along on the iphone!

*looks around*.... I wonder if they'll still let me mod this place? LMAO!!

Posted by: NextelsOnly

I really hope to see a U.S. version of this phone released soon. It's impossible to find a nice 3G phone that doesn't just work on 2100.

Posted by: tkao2025

Well looks like it's finally out....x1387 shows he's got 9 available and Plemix also has them.....wondering if these are Euro or Asian versions?

Posted by: eekflapfire

Sony Ericsson P1 / P1i is out on eBay...

x1387 has it for $895

Posted by: ken.vs.ryu

time to buy a w950.

Posted by: eekflapfire

The price is just ridiculous. Gotta wait a few weeks for the price to drop...

Maybe so. I've fluctuated from the M600i, to the E65, and back to SE with the W950 waiting to see what P1 holds. Too much is what.

$600 was my limit for this thing

Posted by: methodz

ok, just checked plemix who is x1387 on ebay. $905 on their site.

someone pony up so we can see if i will spend $700 on it when it goes down.

Posted by: eekflapfire

Yeah, I don't think the phone is worth more than $600, if at all. I will probably hold out until I get more user feedback.

Posted by: bostonirishguy

No 850... blah.

Posted by: DLo_lopez

I havent been on HOFO until a few weeks ago when I found out about the p1i which would be an upgrade from my m600i, and same thing as a few said here, I wasnt planning on spending more than $600 on it. Maybe Ill just get the samsung i600...??

I am curious is a problem that the pix dont pop up on ebay? or is it my PC only?

Adios,
David

Posted by: randomtask77

This really shouldn't be a surprise to you guys. A month from now is when the price of the phone is going to level down.

Posted by: mrochester

Can someone clear something up for me... what speed processor does the P1 have?

TIA.

I'm with you, no more SE.

Posted by: Paul in SoCal

CTI-Miami has it listed at $602 available on 8/2.

Posted by: Arne Anka

The processor speed is same or similar as P990 it has been said. Despite that, P1 operations are still much faster than P990.

http://www.mobilmagazine.com/Articl..._MOB660.dbp.asp

The preorder price in Sweden is like 665 USD, so take a vacation here and buy your self a decent unlocked P1 for cheap money (with tax reduction the phone becomes 532 USD).

exactly - x1387 is ALWAYS amongst the first to actually get models in and ALWAYS has them priced pretty ridiculously when they first drop - im guessing within the next WEEK the price will drop down some and continue that trend until it hits its true "selling" price

imo - he's a genius - there are plenty of people who will shell out excessive amounts of money to be the first to have a new gadget - he just capitalizes on them

heck, then the k850 comes out, i might be one of those morons who gets it in the first couple of weeks...

Posted by: shockdaddyd

L Bo: How do you like the iPhone thus far?

I really, really, really want one but AT&T is of no interest to me. Been there, done that, then got decent cellular service to replace it.

Posted by: ExOrCizT

WTF WITH NO 850. this is BS i really want that keypad on a symbian phone!!!

and with SE's camera's im sure it will rock.

but no 850 is a KILLER.

Posted by: randomtask77

Hasn't even been a full 24hrs. since its release and the phone is already down from $905USD to $779USD.

Posted by: jackygor

haha...I am hoping it ll drop to around 500-600 range at the end of august!

Posted by: eekflapfire

Yeah, I'm not surprised the price is dropping. The initial prices are always overly inflated. I just hope the prices fall to a more reasonable level (around $500 or so) faster. I guess I'm just a little impatient

Posted by: mrochester

Can anyone tell me how fast the processor is in the P1? It says a lot about usability and responsiveness!

TIA,

Michael.

Posted by: mrochester

I've found the answer and it's only 208mhz. What a pity!

Posted by: Bokito

$769 and cheaper shipping finally

Posted by: terrien

Same proc as p990, w950 & m600.

I can't imagine paying that for a smart phone with no 850. Email and internet will be basically useless.

...if youre on a network that relies heavily on 850...

EDIT - i feel bad for you people in cali - i think even tmo roams on 850 out there - that just seems so counterintuitive - why start developing a system whereby only people in certain areas HAVE to worry about 850?

here in chicago - ive only had 2 phones with 850 total - and those werent even my main phones - i have no problems whatsoever using 1900

Why? I've been using unbranded SE phones since 2001 and almost all of them were tri-band 900/1800/1900 and I haven't had problems with them in Cali. Cali is still one of the few places where you could use a 1900 only phone with no problems.

Not with internet. Non 850 phones work fine out here. But I don't enjoy surfing the web on grps. Waste-o-time.

Posted by: boston_errol

It's not the lack of 850 that kills it, it's the lack of EDGE for crying out loud!

T-Mo doesn't have any roaming with 850 out here in SoCal. I know plenty of pple with T-Mobile using 900/1800/1900 or 900/1900 phones.

ive never actually been to cali - i was under the impression that 850 is crucial out there due to posts ive read here - maybe thats not the case

there is a LOT of misconception about people "needing" 850 on these boards - sure, there are places where it is pretty essential - but i would think that those places would consist of VERY small sections of metro areas and then the boonies

im in your boat - here in chicago - i just dont need 850 - even when i road trip up to toronto (which is supposedly COVERED with 850), ive never had any issues

and addressing boston_errol - yeah - no edge is an absolute deal breaker for me

I think that there are sections of Cali (northern cali) that are starting to use 850 and 1900, thus why you see some threads about some people needing it.

Posted by: SplndidHorror

I'm in southern California and i was always under the impression that 850 was crucial for me, or anybody in the US, and I have been basing my next phone purchase on that little fact. How can I find out of 850 is used in my area? That would be such a relief if it wasn't.

I'd have to try it out for myself in a shop. I want something that's at least as fast as the N95.

Posted by: Da_G

you can get away with 1900 outdoors in so cal, but once you start trekking inside buildings, places with high density foliage, etc, that 1900 signal has a real hard time punching through whereas the 850 signal will make it iwth room to spare.

I agree... I'm in Omaha, NE, so I don't technically NEED 850, but I travel a lot into areas w/ mostly 850 coverage. It's bad enough that AT&T doesn't have coverage in rural parts of Iowa where I grew up (so when I go back home for the holidays, I have no coverage whatsoever), but I just can't be left w/out a phone when I travel for work...

Woah! Import gsm isn't messing around... I just got a notification from them and its only $600!

Posted by: supercarrera

I'm in Nor-Cal (Bay Area) and have been using a tri-band phone but I get A LOT of dropped calls on AT&T service. So I'm stepping up to a quad-band s500 to see if there will be an improvement. I expect there will be.

Posted by: eekflapfire

In Southern California (Orange County), you can pass with using a triband phone without 850 on AT&T/Cingular. My k810i works just fine in the area. However, I do notice that I do get better reception overall (i.e. in buildings) with my quadband phones.

Yeah, I noticed that too. This is a good sign. But the price still seems pretty steep for this phone.

Just put in my order at Import GSM It is the cheapest price I could find even lower than x1387. I also asked that they send me non-asian keypad.

For me having no 850 has never been a problem....it would have been nice, but I never had any problems around the NYC area or anywhere I've traveled throughout the US and Canada so no big deal for me.

**Edit** I just got my money returned to me from Import GSM...WTF?? I guess they don't want my money. I paid most of it cash through paypal and rest with CC....Oh well I guess I'll wait and buy from x1387. Can't be bothered to contact the seller.

And the M600i is $197 via Plemix. Almost worth it regardless of the non 850.

Hmm...I wonder why ImportGSM cancelled your order. Maybe they don't have the phone in stock? Or did they advertise the wrong price?

I had the M600 and liked it a lot better than the P990. This new P1 looks great too. I would have picked it up, but grabbed an iPhone. My first non SE phone

Posted by: Paul in SoCal

I'm stuck in the mud at the moment - E65, M600i or W950i. Or something completely different. I've never used S60 before, though I've never used UIQ either.

Not sure...I've never bought from them before. The credit card payment is through paypal and it says it's a non-confirmed address (I'm thinking maybe this is the problem), but I've never had a problem with anyone else on the web before. I'm not sure why my office address is non-confirmed, but my home is. I usually have my phones shipped to work because I'm not home to pick up packages and I don't have the patience to wait

a confirmed address is the address attached to the credit card you used to confirm the address in the first place - unless you have a credit card attached to your business address, it wont be confirmed...

i like the m600 too, almost picked one up too. if it even had a 1.3 mp camera i would own it already.

god dam sony and their anti USA...screw them.

Posted by: fryrice8850

man i really don't care bout the 850mhz im more worry about edge cuz u know how it is here in the US we don't have any computable 3g fones tat work on our gsm network and i can't stand gprs slow speed...tats y i got the k790a so i can get edge speed and also i can tether with some decent speed. i want to be able to get my emails and do some light web browsing at the same time w/o having to wait for it.

Posted by: fryrice8850

lol y SE don't think about us in america and release one with EDGE data speed??? now where is tat p990i for $300??? i would get p1 but gprs is like using dial up on ur comp, so slowwww...

Posted by: Arne Anka

Hey, in US you have iPhone, so why complain about lack of edge or 850 MHz in SE phones.

I wanna buy P1i!!!
I think ImportGSM advertised the wrong price....
that's why they return funds.

I have a w800i that I currently use and have been for over a year here in the Los Angeles and S.F. Valley areas. I've never had a problem getting signal with only 1900. I've used it in Arizona and Nevada with similar results.

I was looking at a P1 to replace my w800i recently, but decided to go for the HTC 8525 instead. Mostly because I cannot justify the cost of a P1. It's just too expensive right now.

Posted by: stunna7516

I wonder at what point this phone will bottom out for now, hopefully around $500 or even lower, but that could be another month or so before it reaches $500.

Posted by: tkao2025

I'm thinking around $449......but again when the phone just hit stores and Import GSM has it for $599 that's a pretty good price already. Going to see if I should order from them today.

let us know if importgsm refunds your money like they did to the other guy in this thread.

I'll admit the 1st 7 days were the worst just because i had a HARD adjustment to the keyboard. But NOW?!?! Oh man!!! I think I may be keeping her.

Now that I know there is an IM Web Client, the email pushing isnt so bad and I dont have a download restriction size (plus the email uses the wifi when its available to download the mail ALOT faster!!).

HOWEVER! The ringtone and limited text sending is a killer! I send one text to multiple people, but the iPhone wont do that. So I wont port over until there is a fix for that. The ringtone things isnt a deal breaker yet, but I cant get the watch to pair with the iphone to see if it'll work like it does with the SE (probably wont).

Other than these and a few other minor issues, this is a solid easy to use and quick to boot up phone, but in no means a replacement for a hardcore BB user or someone who relies on the smartphone platform HEAVILY!!

By now I thought all IPhone users know IPhone only supports one BT profile, namely headset, so of course it won't work with the SE BT watch if that's what you were refering to.

I'm watching the price as well. I had a P990i and I hated it.

No one has it yet? What is this?!!!!

It's been shipped via DHL and should be here in a couple days.

Posted by: alan2000

I have checked other sites.

SNtrader has it for $682 CAD free overnight shipping.

I wonder if that's a good price.

Posted by: FullMetalKid

The price isn't too bad and it'll drop pretty quickly unless its a hot seller. I'll probably read a deep review before even deciding if i would purchase this phone.

Posted by: fryrice8850

i just hope you guys get everything that its suppose to come with. Cuz i checked a couple ebay auction and they don't come with the "full retail package" no pouch, no 512 mb m2 card, and desk stand. Cuz i know SE site said that the phone comes with those items. I too am waiting for it to hit around $450-$500, hope it gets there soon b4 fall semester starts.

Posted by: ken.vs.ryu

It's under $600 now!

Posted by: eekflapfire

It's about $600 shipped now if you buy it online. I'm hoping it will hit the $500 range in a few weeks. In the meantime, gotta figure out what phone to get rid of...

Posted by: rmyc

too bad no gps.. i wish some one will post samples of its video recording!

is it also true , no wifi G ?

Posted by: alan2000

it's still $650 ish with shipping
not to count the tax we get in Canada.
SUCKS!

$592 from plemix!!!

Posted by: absolon3

I have posted some vids on YouTube of my thoughts on this phone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLi7anod_us

I am really impressed overall with it and think that it's a worthy upgrade to the P990. Video capture is not all that great but I have my E90 as a main phone. I believe that the P1i has replaced my N95 for now.

After not being too pleased with the P990, it feels great to be back with SE and the touchscreen interface once again.

After setting up my email account the P1i automatically set the Gmail inbox into the Today screen. I think if one has multiple boxes they would have to choose a primary box to be shown or possibly have all of the shown.

Posted by: Paul in SoCal

One thing to note as well is I installed an MP3 program on my M600i called LCG Jukebox. It plays Ogg Vorbis files which are light years better than Mp3 IMO. Sound quality is better than the two walkman phones I've owned as well. Not to mention playlists and album art are a breeze to install.

Great help, Absolon.

Thank you.

Thanks for the vids. Since I have not looked into this phone you have. Is it running on HSDPA? I see you have AT&T.

Nope. GSM 900/1800/1900 & UMTS only

Would you mind telling me where you purchased your p1 from? Thanks in advance.

I purchased mine from wirelessimports.com. I am posting this right now from the P1i. It is not as easy as the E90 due to the slooow connection of GPRS, but it is do-able.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

wow i just got my localy here in GVA at a local store for 720 =D pretty happy with it

Posted by: wirelessgal

Wow, I love the big screen and the colours!! It's a sharp looking phone. I had the p990i when it first came out and without 850, I could barely get any reception. It's too bad the P1 doesn't have 850. For now, I'm still loving my p910a.

Posted by: mrtensai

I just got mine today!! I'm very happy with it. Can anyone tell me how I can use the phone as my GPS? I got mine from addictedtophones.com They gave me a coupon code for $20 off, send me a message if you are interested.

Do you have bt gps receiver? Then try nav4all or maybe tomtom works.

I wonder if the front camera can be used as a webcam when on wifi?

Posted by: manchuia

absalon,

a.) WHAT DO YOU DO!!!! Man you have something like $2K worth of phones just lying around on your couch !

b.) I really enjoyed your video demonstration as it cleared up a BIG concern I had on this phone. You were able to do daily tasks one handed (as you had the camera in the other hand) and looked to be able to navigate quite well with the hard keys. I know with previous generation UIQ devices, that was an issue and people always had to touch the screen to do something.

Unintentional side effect of your video, but a beneficial one

Posted by: EMAGDNIM

I just checked some prices on eBay and buy did it sure drop...

What's up with SE phones coming out at super high prices, only for them to fall rather quickly in a few weeks...It's going to hit $500 really soon...

Will you be buying the K850 when it"s released?

Posted by: yyzxmn

Paired with the SE BT watch, I get SMS and email alerts on the watch!

Also, the Opera browser is very fast loading & rendering pages. Much faster than E90 & N95 I used previously. On the same WLAN router (Belkin) at home and at a local cafe's wifi (linksys) with all three mobiles, the P1 is much much faster surfing (802.11b vs. g not withstanding!)

$545 from plemix!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: sdewan

Lol the prices people pay just to have the first gadget out. This is just like the ps3...

Posted by: emyh

Are you kidding me?

That's an AMAZING price considering how recently it was released, and is a VERY decent price for a smartphone.

I definitely remember some $900-$700 phone releases... I think you must be in the wrong forum or something!

Posted by: tkao2025

Got the P1i last week. The size is great and the keyboard is also very usable (I liked the M600i). The improvements noticed so far compared with M600i and P990i are obviously the more RAM and the easier to read screen in the sunlight (big improvement).

The camera is a little disappointing. Was hoping the camera would be on par with the K800, but it's not. The N95 takes pictures a lot better. Battery is good but not great compared to let's say the E61i. It is one beautifully designed handset IMO.....planning to get an E90 soon, but the P1i is just so much more pocketable, which is a big plus.

Posted by: yyzxmn

to tkao...

E90 is a nice kit. but try it out if you can beforehand. the size/weight has to be weighed against whether you're goong to use the full suite of features.

personally, the size/weight was the dealbreaker for me after using it for two weeks.

Well I did play with the E90 for a bit and really the size is a lot smaller than I had first thought. No doubt the P1i is a better size in general, but UIQ3 doesn't seem as user friendly....I guess I have to get use to it.

Also I wish they would improve on the camera quality. If one thing that SE does well is Multimedia, but I have to say the P1 is sort of disappointing after using the N95 for a few weeks.

Posted by: yyzxmn

But I'd suspect most handsets would feel disappointing after using an N95. The built-quality was disappointing though. So I moved on to an 8600 (fabulous built-quality and industrial design) before moving on to an E90 and then to the P1 I'm using now. The only thing I miss is the S60 catalogue of 3rd party s/w.

Posted by: manchuia

yeah, non subsidized smartphone prices from the major cariers usually start in the $500+ range.. flagships have been known to debut around $800. The e90 is still a $800+ phone.

If you are looking for a cheap phone, There are a large number of midrange phones offered by both carriers, just don't complain about the lack of features.

so would u say coming from a user who has never used ne of the p-series would it be hard to use the phone (like installing new apps, java games, etc) cuz i have used n73 and i hated it (maybe its just me) but i had a hard time installing java apps/games on the phone. i though u would just send it to the phone (bluetooth) and then i though it would ask u where u want to install it (like k790) and then its set. but instead i have to look for it and then somehow hope it was installed.

Posted by: fryrice8850

ne of u guys think se will release a p1a? cuz that would seal the deal of me getting this phone, i can't seem to use the internet w/o edge. been using edge on the k790a and its sooo much faster than gprs.

Posted by: manchuia

p1a prolly wont happen. Cingular is pretty "saturated" with smart phones between HTC, nokia, blackberry, and (lesser extent) apple.

There are rumblings that SE and Nokia will release more US 3G phones once tmobile gets its network up and running correctly.

By then we should be on a p2 .. or something ...

Posted by: fryrice8850

hmm...now its making me lean more towards nokia e61i, but i don't want to go back to nokia after using the n73....it gave me nightmares and make me stay away from nokia

Posted by: ~~Tito~~

i love SE phones, It was my first brand. Any ones like that that are quad band? I like the p990 is that quad band? If so once I sell my psp I'll buy it from you . Might get the p1 when it gets quad band.

PS:Psp Is up for grabs here and on Cragslist .

I wouldn't say that. For me because I'm so use to S60 and using the nav keys that using the touchscreen needs some getting use to. The phone is beautiful, has lots of ram, and the keyboard I really like. Just wish it had Edge and 850mhz, but I've done without it before. Some might even find it easier to navigate because they come from a palm where a lot of things are touchscreen based. I would try it out before you buy one though.

hey the price went down to $532 at plemix. i hope i can get some kind of voip program to use on the p1

nevermind....i had to uninstall the blackberry connect software before installing activesync

Any word on a north american version? I'm in the UK right now and I really like the phone... but buying it here and taking it back with me to the US would be a waste if an 850mhz version with edge is coming out soon...

can someone post their email settings for the "Today" tab?

i ran a search and came up with this:

Account name: whatever (does not matter)
Connect with: GPRS Account
Email address: whatever@gmail.com
Connection Type: POP3
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
User name: whatever@gmail.com
Password: .....
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com

Now, move on to the "Advanced" settings

Encryption: Incomming should be "SSL" and Outgoing shoud be "TLs"
Outgoing username: whatever@gmail.com
Outgoing password: whatever
Incoming Port: 995
Outgoing Port: 25

but for some reason my connection keeps timing out.

Posted by: methodz

ok, i also tried this and am connecting via wifi and it still timing out.

2 THINGS BEFORE YOU START:

A. Make sure you have internet connection, and your internet settings (WAP) correctly configured before starting

B. On your computer, go to gmail and log in, after logging in, go to settings and go to Forwarding and POP tab, enable pop for mail that arrives
from now on and save changes.

Now you're ready to setup your email on your M600i:

Here are the step by step :

- From standby screen, tap on messaging ( if this is in your shortcuts), if not then tap on main menu and then messaging.

- Tap more ( lower right hand side), and go to settings, then go to email accounts

- Create an email account if don't have one and then onto the 3 Tabs which is BASIC, INBOX, and OUTBOX

- Let's do Basic tab first:

1. BASIC

Account name : gmail

Your name : Whatever it is you want

Email address : youremail@gmail.com

Connection type: POP3

Allow IMAP idle : uncheck

After filling up the Basic tab , tap more with your stylus ( lower right hand side), and go to advanced

- Under Advanced, there are 2 tabs, Incoming, and Outgoing, lets do Incoming first.

A. Incoming Tab

Secure Connection : SSL

Incoming mail port: 995

Secure password authentication : uncheck

B. Ougoing Tab

Secure Connection : SSL

Outgoing mail port : 465

Use MIME encoding : check it

Now we are done with the Basic tab, onto the 2nd one

2. INBOX

Incoming server address: pop.gmail.com

Username: youremail@gmail.com

Password : your password

Download restrictions: No restrictions

Smaller than : it's upto you

Limit number of emails : it's upto you

Receive using group: Internet

Last Tab

3. OUTBOX

Outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com

Use SMTP authentication : check it

Use Inbox login details : check it

Username : yourmail@gmail.com

Password : your password

Send using group: Internet

Save it and there you go, you are all set, to make sure it is working, send an email from a different email address from your computer to your phone,

and then go to messaging and click more and then tap on Get & send. wait a few seconds ( 15-30 ) and you should get the email that you sent from your computer to your m600i.

Posted by: methodz

well, i downloaded the gmail app and got that to work fine under wifi, but not under gprs.

still cant get the email account to work under the "Today" menu which is what i really want so i can see the amount of messages as they come in and so i don't have to launch an extra app.

Help!!!

did you add you gprs connection to the group of accounts that are allowed to access the internet? When i look at my connection manager it has two tabs or sections. One shows accounts which include my gprs and wifi accounts, and the other tab shows a group that is used for accessing the net. When i edit the group i see both internet accounts are listed and also what their priority is for the device to know which one is the default account.

Hope that makes sense and helps as i am going to bed now. If it doesnt work delete and reenter your data account as it may contain errors

hhhmmm.....

there is a sony style store in the mall here in Atlanta....

I asked about it a lil' while ago, guy told me they were getting more phones in and it might be one of them....

Posted by: fryrice8850

idk the web site said they have it in stock so i just ordered one (just hope it comes with the pouch) and got a sony card. they say it will take 8-12 weeks for the $150 credit to be posted on my bill, and i get 1 yr 0% fixed apr on the purchase which is not bad at all.

Posted by: methodz

anyone have an answer why my gprs works for my opera mobile but not my opera beta?

anyways interesting to see the p1 on sonystyle. also interesting how the w580 is cheaper on sonystyle than it is everywhere else, that is usually not the case.

Posted by: sdsviet

i got a question for tmo users with the p1. i was wondering what data plan u are using with the p1. like for email internet and text. i've heard u can run your aim thru the text and if u have unlimited text, u are good to go. i dont know if this only applies to tmo branded phones such as the dash. im wondering about the data plan because i remember using my p900 for aim and internet with on the tzones plan b4 tmo started closing ports.

change it online. Switch your phone to a blackberry phone on your profile, go to switch the plan, and the blackberry connect plan should be there. Pick that, deselect your current internet plan, and you are good to go.

fixed this problem for myself. i had too many internet accounts and i started deleting them to the bare minimum, then went to tmobile to resend my settings. when i narrowed it down to just tzones, wifi, default, and picture messaging, all was good and got my opera mini beta to work via gprs.

now... if i could only get my agile to work via gprs i would start to love this phone. i still haven't figured this out.

this isnt a pesonal attack, but it would be much easier to help you if you would acknowledge that you have tried what others have suggested to instead of just asking the same question again. i know that i have offered you suggestions only to see you ask the question again without confirming if you tried the suggestion or not. help us help you......

Posted by: fryrice8850

just got the phone and its really nice and all but the "push email" don't seem to work very well. I had the k790a and that thing is always getting email but the p1 doesn't seem to pick up the email that good. i checked off "always push" under more in email accounts. and wat does "active when roaming" mean? am i suppose to check that one off too? this is the only problem that i have other than that the phone is awsome.

also do u always have to go into task manager to close programs. cuz in the startup wizard it states that when u press the back key arrow on the screen it would close the program but it doesn't.

no biggie...i did try this method. only i had so many internet accounts i wanted to actually find out which one it was selecting. i had setup my phone through sonyericsson.com, then again through tmobile, then again through tmobile because i thought i wasn't setting it up right. then i had like 25 different internet accounts(some duplicates too). i put them all into 1 group then i tried your method and it connected. i then decided i had too many damn accounts so i deleted them all and started from scratch. now i only set up my internet accounts via tmobile wireless configurator(didn't use se.com) and now only have 5 internet accounts. i would add one then launch opera beta, and if it didn't work i went further into the wireless configurator til it sent me a new profile. after doing that a few times i concluded that it is using the tzones account because when i set that up it started to work.

now pretty satisfied with the phone. the only thing left on my checklist is getting agile to work via gprs (it worked using wifi though). my guess is to add a manual internet account, but i think my trial period may be over so i may not even get the chance to figure that one out.

also getting my gmail to work in the "today" screen would be nice but not as important as i have the gmail app working properly. there is one more method for me to try to get this to work but i haven't had the chance yet. it was to download that "experion?" files and rename them on my phone(i have the tutorial bookmarked somewhere). i'll repost if i give that a shot and fail, otherwise i stated the 2 manual settings i was using to try to get it to work previously.

i'm a honda guy myself (AP2)

Posted by: fryrice8850

well currently i don't know how i did it but i got the push email to work, so emails work, web works, opera mini, google maps, gmail app but the java app always ask if it can use the network. is there a way to make it a default setting to always connect instead of me always selecting 'connect this session only' also i guess im+ don't work with the 5.99 plan it works when im on wifi, im glad i tried the trial version before i bought it.

Posted by: fryrice8850

hey have any of u guys having problems with connecting ur p1 via USB with the computer? cuz everytime i finish installing sony pc suite and i plug the phone in i get the "cdc comms interface" and it would say install successful but then it would say "hardware not installed properly" so now i can't connect my phone via USB its driving me nuts. And is there a way to get bluetooth remote control on the phone, like the one on my other SE phones. so i can control PP slides or uses the phone to move the mouse cursor on the computer?

Posted by: sdsviet

thanks for the quick answer. with the im+ issue, i might have an answer. i dont know if the im+ in the p1 is the same as the m600 but my friend who got a m600 got im+ to work with tzones. he told me that he couldnt registered the im+ because it needed to run thru tcpip but the tzones only runs it thru proxys. so wat he did was he called up tmo and ask to add the 29.99 data plan to his phone to check if he can use it with his phone. after it was added he registered im+ and just called them and lied that it didnt work so they can cancelled it without him being charged for it. now his im+ works with tzones on his m600. he is also running on port 110 i believe. so if the im+ is the same, maybe this method will work with the p1? also i had a weather program on my p900. do u know if this is out for the p1 and will it work with tzones.

Posted by: fryrice8850

idk i haven't been able to get many programs for the phone cuz this is my first uiq phone and i am still tryin to figure out y i can't connect the phone via USB. its driving me nuts! using windows xp pro but it works on my home pc (xp home) but i am always on the road so i would rather have it on my laptop. but is there a crack for im+ i need to find one.

Posted by: sdsviet

yea as of right now i dont have a p1 so i cant really help u there. im trying to get im+ to work on my p900 thru tzones but all it does is give me an error saying unable to authorized to aol check login and password.

Just wondering if anyone has experience this issue?

And i got another question anyone using the 5.99 tzones plan wit P1 and the internet won't work but push email still works??

i dled the new im+ and ran it on trial and actually got it to work with tzones. the only thing is that its doesnt stay on. it always just cut off after awhile. i dont know if it is because of the trial version or if the p900 keeps losing connection. did u ever get the p1 to work with im+. im using port 110 by the way.

How many hours of music playback should we expect using regular headphones like the HPM-70's (not bluetooth ones) with no other phone activity? (Offline mode too, like listening to music on a plane).

I've tried skype using fring and almost made a call using iskoot.
the sound quality on fring is quite decent on a good day (even when using skype on PC, the sound quality varies a lot, hence the reason I switched to Yahoo Out, and only back to skype bc of fring)

With skoot, from my one time use and if i'm not mistaken (please correct me if i'm wrong), you need data plan to connect to skype and then, iskoot will call its server, which in this case is a TO number (647). I'm in Kingston, and this will cost me a fortune in long distance bill (unless you have a plan) and hence I didnt try it long enough to see how well it works.

hey shaolinmonk, does your mms work well? i have set mine up, but it seems to only send and receive if the pic is under 60kb. any thoughts on this? my other phones seem to be able to send and receive much larger files. this is about the only thing that is not working really well on my phone.

hey has anyone get random restarts on their p1? it happens to mine after 2-3 days of not powering off. I though these bad boys can have a long uptime of stayin on?

Posted by: hondaguy

i cant say that i have left mine on for more than 2 days without restarting it. i have not had mine restart yet. try uninstalling all 3rd party software and see if it still happens

Posted by: fryrice8850

i don't have a lot of 3rd party software on the p1 yet. but has anyone found a way to change the web's home page? im using tzones/tmobile. so everytime i use the shortcut key (which i made it to web) it brings me to tzones home page and not google.com (the home page i want). read the manual couldn't find it. I though the manual for the p1 is a little bit less than i would except from a pda phone.

there it goes again it restarted on me after 2 and half days of the phone on. maybe the new update will fix the problem.

now do u have to have the usb plugged in for the update to work? cuz i currently can't plug the phone in via usb because of some missing driver "CDC Comms Interface" anyone else having this issue

Posted by: jeffgrado

I looked in the SEUS directory and unzipped all the drivers into the same directory, then pointed the hardware installation to the new directory.

my phone has been up for about a week with no issues.. i had to turn it off to put the sim in my iphone...

not sure why you're having a com error.. power off the phone, press and hold the c button and connect the cable that should install any other drivers you're missing...

also why are you using the gmail app? you can just setup a mailbox in the messages.. it won't push cause it's not imap but it can check every minute if ou want it to..

i find the shortcut key is best set to the home screen.. makes multitasking a lot faster...

also just delete the tzone book make and it will be the static se search page which is google..
