s2000 or 350z

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i know that the 350z is more powerful and a little more roomy than the s2000, but i was wondering what u would rather have, an s2000 or a 350Z? im kind of on the fence about these 2 cars and might be buying one of them in about a year or so(most likely a bit used) and i was wondering what the pros and cons of each vehicle are. i was also wondering the mpg ratings if anyone knows them.

Posted by: Ender1490

Go for the Z. I think the Z looks nicer than an s2000.

Both have roughly the same mpg, about 20/26.

Posted by: T-MoJoD

I have always been a fan of the 350z. With alittle work the S2000 can look like a mean ride. But withouth body work I think they look like a womans car.

Posted by: oreo2242

Ehh tough decision man im torn between an s2000 lancer evo mr and bmw m3... not to thread jack but I know how you feel im bout a year out till I get a new car as well.

Pros of the s2000.
Super sweet gauges tranny shifts a million times smoother then the 350z. Convert if you like, I would prefer the hardtop, yes the z has more power but the s2000 weighs about 800 pounds lighter!!! s2000 is way more of a sports car then the 350z. 2003 model or lower revving to 9000 rpm is amazing!!!! above 2003 only 8000 rpm
Pros of the 350z.
It has traction control in a rear wheel drive and water its almost a must. You do get a v6 feels more torquey down low ALOT. It is alot more roomy.

Both cars are pointless to mod unless it is forced induction, they net very low gains for spending 2500 to 3000 on intake race header(s) exhaust you net what 12 wheel horse power pointless. Both have H.I.Ds. wich are sick. Both pretty good panty droppers.. tough decision bro, either way your gonna be happy.
Its hard i drove em both girlfriend has an s2000 and her friend has a 350z and i cant make up my mind.

Posted by: vinvam

oreo2242, go for the m3
r3di7 go for the s2000

Posted by: oreo2242

ya i know m3 is sweet and all but im still young man bust my *** all day everyday and want some thing i can toy with and mod and feel the gains ya know with out worrying about the up keep of a aftermarket turbo. I have a steady gf she is not going anywhere so I dont need the "balla factor". AHHHHH i hate this i can not make up my freaking mind man.

hmm

well the s2k is a very raw, unrefined. unforgiveable monster of a car. its also small, little trunk space, and doesnt even have a glovebox (or was it cupholder?), and depending on model, doesnt even have a glass rear window. its more of an enthusiasts car; kinda hard to use as a daily driver.

the 350z is "more refined" (depending on model year) and easier to live wiht car (also depending on model year). it def has more trunk space and a usable radio.

so what turns ur crank? do u think u could live with a s2k everyday? or do u want something u could live wiht easier everyday yet still have some fun?

Posted by: wizard8873

i would go with the Z. the S2000 is a nice car but the 350Z just looks a lot better to me and i'd rather have the torquey (sp) V6 as opposed to the high revving I4

Posted by: R3ADi7

heres a video i saw of a 350z, s2000, porsche boxster, and bmw m3 racing on a race track somewhere in japan.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozvR3UFbkLA

i think i am gonna get the Z just because it has good low end power and torque (like was mentioned above) and to get some good power out of the S, you have to hit vtech at 9000 revs. i have also heard of some problems with oversteer in the s2000. either way its gonna be a big step from my POS 2000 eclipse RS thats falling apart an slowly dying. 160HP<280HP either car i get, its gonna be alot better than my current ride and id probably be real happy with either one.

Posted by: natewan

s2k hard top is sex! both definitely have their advantages.

350z more power. and also boost happy. twin turbo/single turbo, suspension mods, a few other accessories and done. negative is there aren't too many z's with good n/a numbers, seems boost is the only way to go.

S2k. Uhh, its a honda. You have half of Japan dedicated to making your car as fast as possible . Keeping it n/a is pretty much ideal. High Revving motor. 1 word: Spoon. Its a relatively light car. Or you can boost it, beef up the internals and have a monster.

Now all that is void if your keeping it stock, haha. In terms of just a weekend driver, you'd probably squeeze more fun out of the z, but the high revving of the s2k might get you too. 350z's are more frequent in this area than the s2k's. My vote is for the honda!

Go get a Z.

Depending on which year of the S you're getting, the car is "unforgiving" if you get one of the older ones which are cheaper in price. The new S, however, is refined.

As for gas mileage, the S is a lot better. My friends with Z claims to get roughly 14mpg in the city and 18 on the freeway. I've gotten 20 in the city and 31 if I drive all freeway.

Of course the Z "feels" like it has a lot of torque getting off the line with the 6 cyl motor, I wouldn't give up the S for the power if I was driving it on the track or on the mountains.

Go get a Z.

Posted by: R3ADi7

yea im starting to lean more towards the Z considering the better aftermarket support, its roomier, more powerful, V6, and i know that if by some chance that the car flips, the percent of getting my face crushed into the pavement is alot less with the Z. ive also heard that the insance on an s2k is significantly more than the Z

Posted by: Ender1490

Here's another answer: "YO MAN, JOO GOT A S2000! LET'S RACE AND HIT VTAK YOOO!!!"

Just make sure you get a Z coupe, not the roadster. IMO, the Z roadster looks pretty fugly.

Posted by: R3ADi7

yea im definitely going to get the coupe.

Posted by: jackygor

Have you test drive both cars?

Do you like the feeling of torque? If so, the Z is the obvious choice.

The S2k is light and very tossable, and corners very well.

If i were getting a new car, i would get the the Z because it has the new engine (VQ35HR) which should smokes a new S2000.

Both cars are expensive to make it go faster, the only way is to go FI which would run you from anything from 8-10 grand.

Which ever you pick, you win, it is just a matter of preference.

Posted by: babooza69

i would pick neither, but if i had to pick one i'd pick the Z

for milage the S2K would give you a better mpg. Z is faster (yay v6), funner, and bigger.

ONE WARNING- you said Z has "better aftermarket support". if you're planning to mod your car, BEWARE, 350z mods are more expensive than others. compared to my car, compared to the s2000, a Z is gonna cost a lot to mod (and i thought mine is expensive) i'm partners with a shop, so i would know

Posted by: R3ADi7

im probably not going to do engine mods for a while because i want to get used to how the car drives because im going from 160hp to the 350z with 280hp. i might do some stuff for sound like an exhaust or something, but i heard that the stock exhaust sounds nice as it is. most things im going to do will probably be interior stuff to make it nicer on the inside.

350z, in a heart beat.

Posted by: Skylinepilot

350Z

If you want a car for track days, go kart like handling and some smooth sliding hairpin turns then the S2000 would be the choice for you. But considering most just want a car with some power and some torque for the usual cruising around town and putting your foot into it every once in a while then you want a 350z. I think stock for stock the Z will feel better as a daily driver. Not that both can't go both ways but the 350z is better IMO for the average Joe.

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself!

Posted by: R3ADi7

im actually probably going to get the s2000. after looking around, i found that i can get an s2000 for a lot less than a 350z. i like both cars but i think that the Z will be a little out of my price range and there are 350Z's all over the place where i live (mostly middle aged women with A/T). the only thing i am a little worried about is driving a rag top with a push button ignition to my school.

Posted by: Ender1490

Save up and get a hardtop. IMO, the hardtop looks a bit better than the convertible.

Posted by: R3ADi7

yea ill probably get the hard top later on but they cost like 2 grand

It's a lot more than $2k... it retails for bout $4k.. good deals are like $3400 + other hardware which is another $500 or so.

Posted by: paul34

I think there are better options, but between those... the 350z. You want torque, right?

Posted by: ace587

id go for a 350z, if u live in the hills, id go for an S2000

Posted by: Skylinepilot

Has there been a test drive?

Before you abandon the 350z idea, have you test driven one. I have never been in a stock 350z before but there is a possibility that the stock suspension would be a lot softer than the S2000. The S2000 suspension is a bit on the stiff side and is not always the best daily driver.

Posted by: lotus3

Although they're very different cars, that is a tough decision.

If you're looking for an everyday car and you're rational, then go for the 350Z. If you're out of your mind and don't give a damn about comfort and practicality (like me), definitely go for the S2000.

It is like nothing else out there. I'm actually looking to buy one right now.

Interesting video from bestmotoring.

its s2k vs 350z.

350z held its ground pretty good against the s2k and even manages to beat it!

I know this video is probably biased, just showing the OP what both cars can do!

you can also drive a pregnant lady to the hospital in a z

Haha, oldie but goodie.

Posted by: R3ADi7

i was looking at some s2k's and i saw an 00' with 33K miles for only 13USD. the only thing is that it is rebuilt and restored title. i have seen some other nice s2K's in the same price that aren't rebuilt but they have about 30K more miles. is the rebuilt car worth getting or will i just keep running into problems with it?

Posted by: Sfkn2

Don't get a rebuilt/salvage.

Careful though, my S got stolen just yesterday.

Posted by: R3ADi7

dam that sux that your car got stolen. i was looknig at this other S and it looks really good and its a 2002 with 56K miles going for only 13K. but the description from the dealer says in the first sentence "This is the exception to the rule. Normally we shy away from a branded title, but this S-2000 was just too good to pass up." does that mean it was a salvage or rebuilt car??

******* thieves! Has it been found yet?

I had my fog covers stolen off my STi and I wanted to kill someone, I don't know what I would do if someone stole my car!

The police found it fully stripped except for the motor. I'm waiting for insurance to get the car out of the impound lot so that they can get an estimate of how much repairs will cost, and will then most likely consider the car as a total loss. The police department is holding it for fingerprinting process... somewhat unusual for a case like this, but I'm not complaining.

Well, sadly that was the outcome I expected. Time for the Audi?

Still in the Bay area? I will be flying up there later today and running the 5k of the marathon on Sunday.

Ahh I might be in the marathon if I don't get too caught up. I didn't sign up, but might run with a few friends.

I haven't decided on what car to get just yet.. not even sure if I want another S2000.

I've been driving a Z around for the past two days... don't really like it, but it's a lot roomier and you can definitely sleep in there if you need a short nap.
