ok AT&T told me how to unlock my phone, so i used my friends vodafone sim to do the process...
and now my friends fone (with the vodafone sim in it) is asking for a PIN1/SIM PIN number... Why is it asking for it... and what is the code?

Hi SBik2
It could be either a SIM pin, which if it is he just needs to get it wrong 3times, then enter the PUK when it asks for it to reset it. Or it could be a handset PIN, which if he can't remember it, will mean the handset needs to go for repair.
If it's the SIM PIN, there aren't any default codes, if it's the handset PIN, it will be in the manual

The PIN1/SIM PIN is the code provided to your friend together with the SIM card. If he has forgotten the PIN, you have to call Vodafone and request a PUK code. This is an 8-digit code that will let you change the PIN to a new one. There is no default PIN.
If you enter a wrong PIN code three times, the phone will ask for the PUK (also provided with the SIM, can be requested by the owner of the SIM from Vodafone).
Now watch out, because if you enter a wrong PUK code ten times, then the SIM card will be rendered useless! The SIM card after that will be unlockable in any way, something like a self destruct... So don't try random PUK codes you have 1/10^7 (1/10 million) chances to get it right...
Contrary to the US, European SIM cards do not come with a default PIN code, they all come with random PIN and PUK codes provided to you with the SIM card (either printed on the big-credit card size SIM plastic or on a separate secure envelope)!
