I finally decided that I'd buy a cell phone. Since I've never dealt with them before, I know very little about what is out there. I've ben looking aroun and I think I finally decided on going with Verizons basic family plan. Now the only thing I have to choose is the phone. Basically what I want is a phone slim enough that its not uncomfortable in my pocket since thats where it'll spend most if its time, and I definitely want a camera phone. Nice reception and calirty are really important as well. Looking at amazon I see I can actually get real nice phones for ridiciliously cheap.

Anybody want to give me some suggestions to help me out?

What do you guys think of the LG VX8600?

Moto Krzr would be a good first phone.

Do you have a Verizon store nearby? I learned a lot from just playing with the phones a bit on my own.

I just wish I had learned how much they locked down the RAZR MAXX ve. Of course, as a first phone, that's not going to bother you too much, I'd imagine.

I liked the 8600, but in the end I wanted a flip phone. I thought the KRZR was a little small for my tastes, but other than that it looked like a really nice phone.

I just started getting into phones and so far I have only used moto and nokia. My opinion is that if you can afford it buy a new unlocked phone. I think you should buy a nokia since from my experience have the features you mention above plus they are though phones and can stand a fair amount of abuse. I'm looking forward in to getting a sony ericsson for its cool looking user interface. I hope this helps a bit good luck.

You'll want to check out the RAZR MAXX Ve, the Samsung u740, and the upcoming RAZR2 V9m. All nice, slim phones with decent cameras (the MAXX Ve even has a real flash on it) and decent reception (the RAZRs might be a touch better than the Samsung) but they have their downsides (mostly the same downsides as any Verizon phone).

I'd wait for the RAZR V9m. I'm thinking about getting that myself to replace my crappy Chocolate.

When's the new RAZR going to be released? Also, since it will be a new phone I doubt I'll be able to get it real cheap or even free from Amazon. That's why I've been looking at the LG VX8600, which is free on Amazon? What do you guys think of that phone. I've been reading reviews on it and it seems like a nice phone.
