i have allready got a 6288 housing for my 6280. but the only thing i need to do now is change the firmware from the 6280 to 6288. how would i go about changing this?

I don't know if there's much point to using the 6288 firmware, it's essentially the same. I don't even think there is any difference, it's just a slightly updated model with a new number and fascia as far as I know. You wouldn't get any new functions, would you?

i think the main fix was the battery life problem in the Nokia 6280 and a flashy fascia

yeh the fasia fits perfectly. the only reason i wana make it a 6288 is because nokia keeps making updates for the 6288 firmware and not the 6280

If you're talking about Nokia Software Updater, they disabled the option for 6280s because some older phones (such as mine) had a flex (I think!) or another hardware piece that prevented the phones being flashed to a higher version if you had 3.60 or earlier versions. It bricked the phone and had to be sent back for warranty repair where they replaced the hardware. Instead of issuing a recall or putting up a disclaimer they just took the 6280 out of the upgrade list there. 6288 firmware is identical to 6280 so if you're able to find the 6288 firmware it should work fine.

I'm not saying it will for sure as I don't know this 100% but as others mention, the phones are virtually identical with the exception of the fascia and product codes and they do use the same firmware.
