Any word on when RIM will provide stereo capabilities for blackberry devices?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Maybe on the new pearl 2 codenamed "komet"

Boygeniusreports.com has some info if you want to search there.

But for sure not on the current pearl.

will bluetooth headphones not work with the pearl or curve?

i was under the impression that they would work. if youre question is regaurding mono vs stereo, i think they have some bigger issues to work out before going that far...

i just got my curve about 2 weeks ago, and it is by far the worst sound quality of any audio player i have ever heard...

Won't work because the current pearl does not have the Bluetooth profile: AD2P

You need to make sure your phone supports that specific Bluetooth profile or it won't work and will function just like a normal mono headset

The audio playback from my Curve has been great.

Confirmed that A2dp is NOW available.

Documentation on BB's public tech site states you need to upgrade your firmware to 4.2.2 (currently Rogers is still on 4.1)

The firmware version on my Pearl is 4.2.0. It will sync with wireless stereo headsets but not all. I use both the LG HBS 110 wireless stereo headset and the Bluespoon Spider headset. The Spider headset will connect to the voice command and phone functions but not play back music. The LG HBS 110 will sync but will not connect to hear anything through the headset.

OS 4.2.2 isn't available for the BlackBerry Pearl at this time, right now the latest OS is 4.2.1.164/4.2.1.101. There is a thread on this OS version which can be found here.
