6590 faceplates and reception

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have tried a few faceplates now and have noticed that most of the aftermarket faceplates cause the reception to diminish drastically. For example, I show 5 bars with the original faceplate, and 0-1 bar with the "polished chrome" faceplate. My metal 8390 faceplate is not quite as bad, showing 1-2 bars when the stock shows 5. Is there any way around the bad reception with aftermarket faceplates? My titanium (color) faceplate works as well as the original, so I guess the problem has to do with the paint?

The antenna is located under the black plastic on the top part of the back side of the phone. Faceplates do not cover this area. Therefore reception is not affected by faceplates.

Faceplates DO affect reception. How else would you explain why reception drops 4-5 bars when using certain faceplates? Unless it's just MY phone, but I doubt it. Anyone else notice this?

I have a metal faceplate and it doesn't affect my reception at all. Or maybe my coverage is so awesome that even a metal faceplate interfering with my reception still gives me all 5 bars.

The 3390 has a design where the faceplate coveres the antenna. Therefore it is possible a metal faceplate might interfere with reception.

You've kind of reiterated the obvious, but thanks for the backup!

I have two OEM plates and an aftermarket one and the reception is the same with all three. Plus, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the antenna is in the black portion of the phone that is unaffected by changing faceplates, so changing faceplates shouldn't effect reception.
