Can't send Comcast email.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've sent a recieve the other day but as of yesterday I cannot send any email thru Comcast. I know it was set up right because I've used it before.

I keep getting a message saying it was rejecting by the server.

Anyone have any ideas to check out?

I detest my comcast POP server, I'm constantly having issues. Move to another provider (crappy solution) - but I've heard this from multiple people. I'm phasing my comcast OUT.

Try using the Edge network to send the mail instead of WIFI,

Or maybe your emails are just getting blocked comcast is infamous for that believe me I know.

You have to set the outgoing mail server to:

Host Name: smtp.comcast.net:465
Username: your username
Password: your password

Advanced: Outgoing Uses SSL: choose Yes.
Authentication: Password should be checked.

Good luck.

But then while traveling to another area and using a different WIFI network this will not work, the supplier maybe cox.net or adelphia etc... unless you have usernames passes and server info it will not allow you to send that is why i use edge.

The settings only affect the current mailbox you're modifying. If you're adding another box (cox, whatever) you can set its own settings.

Those are the settings I use for Edge and Wi-fi. Haven't had a problem yet....and I've been on different Wi-Fi networks.

Hmm funny on my MBpro i have 7 email accounts.

so say my website is www.apple.com

i use my outgoing server as

smtp:apple.com or mail.apple.com with all the usernames and passes set up.
it does not send, as i am on the west cost i pick the server smtp.west.cox.net and it gets sent, i then go to another free network this network wifi will not use that outgoing server so i use smtp.yahoo.att.net or something like that alas it does not work they do this to stop people sending spam via there servers. when i use edge it just gets sent. it has been like this for me for years

OK, rtpics,

Do you use cox. Do the same settings work for you?

BTW, this is on edge.

Use Simplicato mail servers, they have a couple of additional ports open on their mail servers that are not typically blocked by the cable or telco carriers. Most of these block ports to meter traffic to avoid blacklisting. I set the iphone on the Simplicato network and used a different port then 25 and i get mail whther on the Edge or WIFI.

Best solution: gmail

(pm me if you need an invite.)

Not true. The Comcast SMTP server requires authentication, SSL when on any network besides their own. Those settings will work when using any wifi network or edge.

Hmmm..to the OP, do you have another e-mail you use on a regular basis?

Just an idea, don't know if you'll like it...I also have comcast e-mail and I despise their settings to, BUT....I use my Gmail account on my phone, and set up your Gmail on the computer to forward all your comcast mail to it. That's what I did and I haven't had a problem since.

Problem with this is when you reply, it will be coming from Gmail. Not a problem for some, but like me, it's quite annoying.

Can't you change that? There's an option you can check that says "Send reply for original e-mail address" or something like that. That's what I always did with my school e-mail address that forwards, and assumed it works.

I had similar problems at first.

The solution that worked for me was - in the User name field for the outgoing server, I put in my whole email address. I also used my passowrd. That was all I changed and have had no problems sending/receiving email on my comcast.net account.

that works if you access gmail on the web. if you use the iPhone mail client it displays your gmail account. I was bummed when I saw that.
