Just got a European unlocked K1 from Tiger Direct. Shipped with S/W rev R4527_G_08.12.13R. Had probs with phonebook search. When I typed in letters, the phonebook would not move to entries beginning with those letters as it should... it just stayed put. Very inconvenient.
Decided that maybe a S/W upgrade might fix the prob. So, to be squeaky clean and insure a valid, working upgrade, I went to www.motorola.com and downloaded their updater which supposedly checks your device and then finds the most recent upgrade. After flashing, my new S/W/ rev is R4527_G_08.02.81R.
If these rev numbers are sequential then that's an older rev. And although my phonebook now works, the home screen (main_menu/settings/personalise/home_screen) is now messed up. I now have the following problems with the home screen: under "home_keys" only up, down, left, right and smart_key can be customized. The right and left soft keys are no longer settable. also the center button of the 5-way navigator duplicates whatever function the "up" key is given. And finally only icons representing the functions of left, up and right show on the screen and they sit on the bottom.
Can anyone help me understand the S/W rev history and how to select and find the right S/W to be up to date. However, I want to be careful not to use a carrier-specific flash that may lock the device as I use both Rogers in Canada and Cingular (AT&T) in the US.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Best regards,
Carl
