Katana USB Driver Questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi all. I'm new here and did some searching here and with Google and could not find any answers. Please excuse me if this has been discussed to death.

My wife got a Katana about 2 months ago and I've been tasked with finding a way to get the photos off it.

I got ahold of BitPim 1.0.0 and I've tried drivers from Susteen and Sanyo. Datapilot has seemingly taken theirs offline so I can't get those.

So to cut to the chase, I can't get BitPim to see the phone. I've reinstalled the drivers and/or the Sanyo connection manager more time than I care to count and everything seems OK, but no luck on making the connect.

So my questions are...
1) Any ideas what could be wrong?
2) Are there any drivers for the USB interface that do not require reinsallation every time you connect the phone?
3) Could the USB driver issue be bypassed y connecting directly via serial (using a converter cable)?

There may be more questions later, but this is where I am for now.

THanks, in advance, for whatever help you can offer.

You can get the correct drivers from www.rpiwireless.com. I just posted in another thread about settng up my sisters phone and it worked fine. If you use this 1xkdie3d coupon code it will give you 20% off and free shipping if not, you can try this www.rpiwireless.com/mobiletools1.zip and it should give you the proper drivers.

Thanks for the scoop and the links. I'll give it a shot.

I just realized. That's where I got my cable and drivers to start with. Bummer.

download sprint connection manager from www.sprint.com/downloads and that will have a driver package. install the driver and use bitpim select get from phone then select wallpaper

edit: also the reason the other drivers dident work is because the katana requires 2 drivers 1. sanyo serial and 2. sanyo usb modem. the serial driver wasent included in earlyer versions of the driver.

Thanks, smokeyou69, but I've already been there, too. I can get the USB and modem drivers to load (it goes through the detection 4 times - twice for each) but I can never get a connection. Never shows the USB connection as live. I can use BitPim setup and see it as disabled and I can even get a COM number, but I can't get it to come available and it also wants to reinstall every time the device is connected. I'm to the point that there must be something about the machine settings getting in the way, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what. I am NOT connecting through a USB hub. I am on a Dell Dimension with XP Home and connecting to one of the 2 USB ports on the front of the box.

I know for a fact that dell and Windows are setup to deny and install of drivers that are not signed by windows. there is a setting in the hardware or device manager settings to allow non-Microsoft drivers to be used and to allow them to seat them self's. I would give you the exact location but I switched to a mac and do not have a windows box any more.. But, stay on the trail and you should be good.

P.S.

Wait till you get a new Dell! You think your having issues with the xp and Dell now... Vista is a Bi**h when it comes to anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the tip on the driver settings. I'll look into it. If I could just get the drivers to work, that'd REALLY be somethin'!
