Look at my new toy: a Pioneer DEH-P980BT!

Yeah, it's freakin' sweet. I just got it today, but I am SO EXCITED! It handles A2DP audio like a charm (and sounds great, thanks to 128Kbps over 3G), and call quality beats the crap out of a BT headset. The iPod control is WAY better than my last Pioneer deck, too.

Ok so I know a lot of you couldn't care less, but like I said, I'm excited so bite me.

I want one of those for my Wife's car , she has a BT headset but you know women , when they get behind a wheel hehe , this will really be great for her she does not need to do anything just answer right ??

How much did you pay for it ??

Where did you get it at ??

Is the installation hard to do ?? Does it need extra parts to install ??

Does it sync your contacts ??

I Do not get that 128Kbps over 3G what do you mean ??

Last but not least , can you please post some pics of the unit installed on your car ??

hehehe Neo its only as hard as you make it. depending on the car and the install kit it can be a very quick install. I think this deck also needs and add on to allow bt so its something more to buy. the oder decks had a problem pairing to multiple phones and had to be re-paired each time you entered the car.

im thinking of buying the cheapy bestbuy insignia deck with bt and see how it works out. since it will go into my sidekick and dont need an expensive unit in there. the dodge ram quad i plan on putting in a carputer with a 7" touch screen ;-)

hey richy does this unit have any of those problems the older pioneer's had? and BTW that is a sweet deck even with some of the flaws if they stil exist.

i got one of those a few months ago. they work great except the bt. it is hard for the other person to hear because it ecchos so bad. and it will start ringing and freeze up for no reason. i dont use the phone part any more. but the rest of the unit is sweet.

Uhh, read the specs. It doesn't need any additional equipment for Bluetooth calling. (See the giant Bluetooth logo on it?) As for a cheap deck, I think I'll stick with Pioneer. I've been using them for over ten years, and haven't had a problem yet.

What problems are those? If you talking about the BT pairing problems, I haven't seen it yet. The only problem I see is that I have to leave my Treo in discoverable mode for it to automatically connect to the deck when I start the car. I only used my TyTN for a couple calls before I boxed it up and sent it out to a recent buyer. When I get my next phone (whatever that'll be), I'll give that one a try.

The echo cancellation feature seems to work for me, unless I have the call volume (of the deck) above 30 or so (which is actually pretty loud). I have had many people already tell me that the sound quality is far superior to a BT headset, so it works for me.

I'll post those pictures of the installation in a few minutes - I have to go take them first.

The unit comes with a wiring "harness" for itself, but you need one to match your vehicle type as well. According to the car audio shops I called, there is not a wiring kit available that matches this deck that does not require cutting wires. I replaced a DEH-P7700MP deck with this one, so I was lucky enough to have a wiring harness that closely matched the one included with the DEH-P980BT. To make a long story short, I had to hack up my old wiring harness to make the new unit work, but it works. And it's awesome.

I also already had the mounting bracket from my old deck. I wish I could find one that looks a little better, but whatever. (If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.) The one shown here was installed by Circuit City when I got my old deck.

i had the 770 . did you figure how to put your own screen savers on the 980. i tryed for days than gave up

oh what i was referencing is a cheap deck for my sidekick cause its an off road vehicle and more of a work vehicle back and forth for winter. the dodge on the other hand is my comfort vehicle so of course it will be parked in the garage when it gets cleaned up.the issues with multiple phones and the pairing. ive always likes pioneer. has the best tuner of all and always had good sound.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense. I guess I didn't read your original post thoroughly. Sorry. As for multiple phones, I only made a couple calls with my TyTN before I shipped it out. I just bought a Cingular 3125 on eBay (for $130! what a deal!), so when I get it I'll give it another try. I'll probably use the 3125 for a while as my T-Mobile phone, so I'll get a chance to test it with two paired phones.

Does anyone know if you can have two BT connections at once? That is, can I have my Cingular and T-Mobile phones connected to the unit at once? (I assume not, but it'd be nice if I could.)
