BlackJack WM6 Using Large Amounts of Data

I have had my BlackJack for 7 months or so, since they first came out. Prior to that I had an 8125 and prior to that a Treo 650. My data usage has been fairly consistent across all three devices, averaging around 60-100MB/month. I noticed that for my last two cycles (June and July) my data usage had increased dramatically -- from 95MB in May to 1,900MB in June to 1,400MB in July (and this cycle isn't over yet!).

I checked the details of the data usage in OLAM and noticed that most of the daytime (when I am awake) data usage comes in smaller spurts -- usually 95KB, 200KB, etc. Maybe up to a 1.5MB usage in a single sitting. I am generally checking email or surfing news or sports, so no large downloads or anything. However, at night (when I am asleep) is when the bulk of the usage is happening. I'm seeing single-sessions with usage from 17MB to 142MB. Additionally, the bulk of this is occurring between 1am and 2am Central Time. One night there was 140MB used at 1:54am and 142MB used at 1:59am! (Which I don't even know how that is possible because I live in an EDGE area -- seems like it would take more than 5 minutes to download 140MB...)

This massive increase in data usage began the day I installed WM6. In addition to WM6 I have installed Live Search. I have my phone syncing with my Exchange server, and I also have it checking my yahoo mail (through pocket outlook) every 5 minutes. However, the yahoo mail settings are set to only download the first 50KB of any message -- and I don't receive emails even that large very often. Even if there were huge attachments that the phone was downloading, it would have no where to store that much data.

(Note: I have also installed SlingPlayer and Yahoo! Go 2.0, but these were installed about a month after this odd behavior started, so I don't think they are the issue.)

Please let me know if any of you have seen similar behavior, and if you have any suggestions to stop it. Thanks!

Interesting. I have mine set up to check emails constantly and I am on a 3g network, and even with light usage on the weekdays, heavy on weekends, im barely breaking 1gb.. I'd say something's wonky somewhere, especially if the most usage is happening at night. What programs do you have open when you set the phone down to sleep?

You might have some kind of wacky billing error happening, because as you stated there's no way you downloaded 140mb in 5 minutes..
I did not expierience similar behavior with WM6, Although i'm back to WM5 until the official release as I use internet sharing frequently..

I don't usually check what is open, but probably only Messaging and PIE. I just can't imagine what could be causing this -- it seems like it might get stuck in some kind of loop trying to transmit or receive something, and just keep sending/receiving data until it times out or something? Just a guess...

This strange data usage is still going on for me -- I am two days into my bill cycle and I have supposedly used 66MB of data and 22MB of data each night around 1:30am. Anyone else experiencing this? Any thoughts?
