samsung wafer w/ BitPim-Help!

I have the samsung wafer, I have the USB cable, and I've installed BitPim, but I can't get it to connect my phone. It doesn't 'detect' the connection or whatever. I have Alltel Jump music, to put Mp3s on my phone, & it works fine. I want to be able to put ringtones onto my phone from my computer. is there another way? or am I doing something wrong with BitPim??
