6682... no sound?

hi all:
just bought a used 6682 off of ebay.

It all seems to work, except when I make a call. Then there's no sound.

The loudspeaker plays the nokia intro tune when the phone is turned on. However, if I dial 611 to add money to the account, no sound comes out of the earpiece, or the speaker when i press the speaker button.

same thing for incoming calls. anyone dialing the (newly activated) cingular pay-as-you-go phone number, can talk all they want, but you can't hear any thing.

Is there a magic setting that has to be adjusted? Like i say, everything else on the phone seems to work.

sounds like its a hardware problem...might want to bring it to a cellphone vendor to have a look.

What happens if you go into profiles and try to change the ring tone?.... hear anything?

If not, sounds definitely like a hardware issue.....

thanks for the hint!!!! that is *so* weird!!!

I found the profiles menu, and changed the ringtone. I noticed that the first few ringtones I selected wouldn't play on select. The only way I could get to hear them was to go and change the ringer volume.

finally, i settled on one that played on select. then I made a call to the phone and !!!it worked!!!

Now, to try to verify the problem, I went back to setting the ringtones with the intent of setting one to the non-sample-able ringtone... and now they all play on select!!!!

Disconcerting, but at least the phone works!!!!

"Branding" is just a cowboy term for "burn your ***".

Software is just a bunch of 1s and 0s, but it sure can make life painful sometimes.

Well, it happened again, and this time, i couldn't make it come back.

I've been carrying the phone around for a couple of days (since y'all gave suggested changing the ringtone), but hadn't made a call on that phone until this morning. No sound!!! Not only that, but cycling power to the phone shows the nokia intro screen, but *no nokia theme song!*

Tried to find a ring tone, but this time, none of the ringtones would preview.

Sigh... boxed it up and sent it back!
