and backup my pearl with desktop manager then restore it on a Curve will by blackberry messenger contacts and all other info transfer properly even though I have a a different pin and device now?

The desktop manager has a switch device wizard that allows you to easily transfer the contents from one BlackBerry to another including any applications that you may have installed. If you opt to do the backup and restore method yes all your BlackBerry messenger contacts and other info will be transferred to the new device.

What about going from a newer device (Curve) back to an older (Pearl)? Just as seamless?
