"No Sim Card Installed" error message

I've had my iPhone for less than 5 days, and after day 2 I received a "No Sim Card Installed" error message. After calling support, I did a soft reboot and then a full up restore when I got home. I thought this had fixed the problem, but after another day of usage, the error message returned.
Has anyone seen this before or know what may be causing it? Everything else on the phone works fine, so I am hesitant to return/exchange it if I can fix this. As always, any help would be much appreciated.

pop the SIM card out from the top of the iPhone and make sure it is well seated in the SIM tray

I had this problem with my phone when i first got it. I had to take out the SIM and wipe off the contacts on the SIM with a soft cotton cloth. Seems a lot of the preinstalled sims have some pretty tarnished contacts. Ive seen these dirty contacts cause "No SIM Card Installed" messages as well as "No Service" messages, when every other AT&T phone in the area has full bars.

Thanks for the tips so far. I have tried removing and resitting the SIM. This did not appear to have any effect. I also gave the SIM a good wipe down with some isopropyl, but it did not work either. Looks like I'll be heading to the AT&T store after work... Hopefully this is an issue with the SIM and not the phone itself. I'll report back.
Edit: Well after running between Apple and Cingular, I finally got a new sim card and got it activated. Unfortunately, it did not work, leading me to believe the problem lies with the phone. I have filed a repair request with Apple, and should have a replacement in the next few days.
Good thing I kept my old SLVR...
