I'm at my wit's end with my 8525

It all started when i had problems syncing my 8525. Now, murphy's law has come true.

I have seen this thread, but I think that i have different problems.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1200176

when i got the 8525 in december, the setup disk installed outlook 2002 and activesync 4.2 (i have xp home and office standard 2003 installed). everything worked fine until 2 weeks ago when activesync says "Synchronizing" forever. nothing ever updates.
- i turned my computer and phone off and on, to try again. didn’t help
- i reinstalled the rom for my phone, didn't work
- i uninstalled activesync 4.2 and installed 4.5, didn't work
- i found a microsoft help page that suggested i uninstall outlook 2002 & 2003, then reinstall 2003 only. didn't work
- i then uninstalled office 2003 completely. i installed outlook 2002 and activesync from the 8525 disk, didn't work
- i then backed up my computer, and tried to go to a previous system restore point. it restarted, and told me that i couldn't do it. i tried 3 other dates, none were allowed.

Everything I do makes things worse.
- The internet on my 8525 worked yesterday. Now, the internet on my 8525 says “Cannot Connect. The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings.”
- since I reinstalled my rom, I have no contacts in my phone
- I cannot reinstall ms office into my computer.
I don't know what else could go wrong with my phone or computer. I'm afraid to find out what goes wrong next.

I am thinking to fix my phone, i need outlook 2007. should I buy outlook 2007 for $90, or should I just heave my phone into a brick wall?
I can't even explain how frustrating this is. if anyone has any suggestions/ideas, please help. if you can fix it, i'll name my first born after you.

Have you deleted the partnership in ActiveSync by clicking File->Delete Mobile Device? (don't have your 8525 hooked up at this time)

The next time you hook it up, it should prompt you to set up your sync settings again.

i deleted the partnership, and tried again.
i've uninstalled activesync and reinstalled 4.5
i've uninstalled activesync and installed 4.2 then 4.5
i've deleted all partnerships from my 8525

still won't sync

try going into connections on the 8525, then usb connections, and uncheck the box

I just had the same problem. I had to hard reset my phone. After I hard reset it I am able to sync. I still get the issues with the data connection. After I soft reset I am able to connect to my data connection. It seems to happen after I sync I have to soft reset to get my data connection back.

nothing works. any more ideas?

hard reset and reconfiguring it will fix it

this sounds overly simplified, but is this what you mean

1) delete connection settings in activesync on my computer.
2) hard reset phone
3) plug back into computer and set up new partnership

The specific thing here is on your 8525, going into Settings | Connections | USB-to-PC options and unchecking the "Enable advanced network functionality" checkbox.

And have you done anything like using a "memory cleaner" or messed with your notifications queue recently? There's a notification queue item that you must have for activesync to work properly. Sometimes you can delete it by mistake if you use a tool like MemMaid. Basically, there's an event that tells the PPC to start ActiveSync (\WINDOWS\REPLLOG.EXE) whenever a RS232 connection is made to the 8525. That triggers Activesync on your 8525 to start. Not sure if this is your problem. It likely isn't if you've never done anything like use a memory cleaning program.

i uncheck the box, deleted relationships on the phone and computer. i restarted my comp, hard reset my phone. checked to make sure the relationships were still gone, and made sure the box was still unchecked. then i connected the phone to the comp via usb. i set up the relationship. i chose from the options to combine information from the phone and computer. then it says "Synchronizing". then the green circles spins and spins. nothing changes, nothing happens.

I have this same problem. My 8525 and Activsync 4.5 beta were working flawlessly until last week. Now it never syncs and all i get is an error.

I reinstalled 4.5 beta to no avail. I think I will reinstall the drivers for the phone and activesync again. I really do NOT want to hard reset my phone.

my 8525 will sync with my laptop, and even then it has troubles, it took a few tries to get it to work. however it wont work with my PC anymore, i've downloaded MemMaid. what is the part within that program to fix your activesync?

No one has mentioned to try to format the windows PC and start over there. It is possible even uninstall activsync from PC leaves traces that are messing it up. Do a HR of 8525 and a format PC. Everything should be like brand new and if still dead then I say a hardware issue at that point.
