hi. thanks for reading this. this is a basic question about the ipod part.

if i have 6000 songs, i obviously can't fit them all on the iphone.

is there a way i can do a one time transfer of my songs to max out the iphone but have it be random so it just picks out random songs and fills out my iphone?

thank you.

yes...you can

You could shuffle them in and out of the iphone rotation via itunes.
or cut them all down to 30 sec's and put them all on.

thank you. may i ask how? i have all my music in the "music" section of itunes. where is the option to load them randomly on the iphone?

Here this may help you: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ar...e-ipod-shuffle/

Goto this section of that page:

iTunes: Loading Music onto an iPod shuffle

For users new to iTunes, here are some supplementary tutorials for various ways of populating your music library that will be used to feed your iPod shuffle:

* Importing CD Audio
* Importing Windows Media Audio
* Free Music for your iPod

How does one transfer this music onto the iPod shuffle? Perhaps an even better question is “How does one decide which songs to put onto the iPod shuffle?” Thankfully, iTunes addresses both questions with a new, extremely easy-to-use feature: Autofill.

Connect your iPod shuffle, and it will appear in the Source List on the left of the main iTunes window. (If it doesn’t, you may need to connect and disconnect your shuffle one time, and/or restart iTunes, before it appears.)

Not sure if it is OK to plug other sites, but http://smartplaylists.com/ has a lot of suggestions. I have no affiliation.

My favorite playlist is: Last Played is not in the last 14 days. I called this Freshen up because it means I have not heard the song for awhile (at least 2 weeks!). Good way to cycle through your songs.

Like chinese_fury mentioned, definitely spend some time playing around with SmartPlaylists in iTunes!

This one would probably get you started. Adjust the GB if you have a 4GB iPhone.

Smart Playlist - I used this alot for filling podcasts on my 1st gen 512mb shuffle in order to fill the most with the least amount of space.

As the only way to download music to the iPhone is via a playlist (none of the autofill capability from the iPod shuffle or drag and drop), what you have to do is create a new "smart playlist" and use that feature's ability to sort through your music library, as well as limit the total number of songs selected to build a playlist. Once the playlist is created, then it can be downloaded into the iPhone. Once in the iPhone, you can play it in shuffle order.

I really think that Apple should have borrowed the autofill capability from the shuffle as well as the drag and drop capability from the iPod devices, but presently we are limited to loading an entire playlist. Maybe in a future release of the software.

You are allowed to refer to other sites. They should just not be posted in every one of your posts, that is spam.

Make a playlist and put shjt in there you WANT to listen to. I don't have 6000 songs.. maybe like 2000, but I sure as sjit don't want every single stinking one on my iPhone!
