Htc Tytn question on wifi

hey this might sound stupid but how do i know that im using my wifi connection or my gprs on my tytn because i dont want to be caught up with outrageous chargers. ps its my first ppc

i use a program called nodata to turn off my grps. then i can be sure im using wifi. when i want grps, i simply toggle the program to ON.
conversly you can just delete your gprs settings and it cant connect.
