903SH USB cable problem

I have a USB cable for 2 of my 903SH that me and my wife had been using in Japan since 2006. One of them works just fine when I connect it to PC via the USB cable and can upload and download files using the handset manager. But when I connect the 2nd set to PC using the same USB cable, the handset manager gives the message "Trying to connect to handset" and never connects to it! The battery indicator in the phone keeps on flashing when the USB cable is connected to the PC, which means that the phone is properly connected to the USB port but the "Connected to PC" screen never appears. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
