I was pleased to hear that Apple had released AppleCare for the iPhone for $69:

http://www.apple.com/support/produc...careiphone.html

I was not pleased to hear this:

Quote:
Apple is not authorized to sell the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone to residents of Alabama, Connecticut, Nevada, or Wyoming. If you are a resident of Alabama, Connecticut, Nevada, or Wyoming, please do not order the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone. If you submit an order that includes the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone, Apple will remove it from your order, notify you about the removal and process the remaining items on your order.

I can't buy an extended warranty for my $600 super phone...because I live in Connecticut. What the heck?? What happens when I drop it? "Gee too bad you live in CT, no soup for you?"

Talk to your state's elected officials... it's probably some "consumer protection" law.

No no, I need AppleCare for consumer protection, lol. I better buy a good shock-proof case...

Florida used to be that way also, the reason being that they require companies doing business in the state to repair manufacturing defects regardless of the companies warranty terms, that changed under Jeb obviously! You may find you are protected beyond the 1 year term even without AppleCare.

Applecare doesn't cover accidental damage. You need to get a floater on your home owners for that.

Which is better...AppleCare or floater insurance (or similar)? My worry is that a new version of iPhone may come out a year before the AppleCare expires, and the normal warranty would cover that first year. Am I understanding this incorrectly?

Your warranty covers the first year of the model phone you bought, if you purchase applecare it covers it for 2 years. It has nothing to do with if a version 2 comes out next week, next year, or next decade. It also does not cover misuse or accidents.

it does matter to me because I will likely buy the new version...if and when it comes out...

Can you buy Applecare after you buy the iPhone? When I was in the market for an Macbook I thought I recalled many people saying that, but that was several months ago. If so, at what point is the cutoff, one year (anytime before the regular warranty wears out)?

Posted by: verizontrader

as a ct resident, this news may be a deal breaker for me! When I purchased this phone from the apple store on the release day, they said that I could it apple care at the end of July. Now apple says no?
I'm going to see if I can return the phone to the apple store, even though its passed the 14 day return policy. This is really disappointing! On a $600 device and not be able to get an extended warranty they said I could get is unacceptable!

I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

I don't believe apple care covers dropping it. But if there was no visible abuse you probably wouldn't have a problem.

I agree that this is B.S., in CT and NV you can purchase AppleCare Proection Plans for EVERY PRDUCT IN THE APPLE PRODUCT LINE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE iPHONE?????? Are we to believe that state legislature allows all other Apple products this service but not for the iPhone??!!! come on!. Something Stinks here!!! I don't think its the legislature in the states either.

The cutoff is anytime within the first year of owning it.

What if I have a house in another state, but my phone's billing address is in CT? Can I buy the applecare and list a house in Florida?

Hey....don't worry guyz....

I just called 1-800-MY-APPLE........the agent told me that AppleCare will be available to these states sometimes in August ( I thought he said the 4th or 14th....i cant remember....didn't pay much attention tho as long as it IS gonna be there)

He refused to comment on why there is a short delay.....but he definitely sure that AppleCare WILL BE AVAILABLE sometimes in August. He actually did put me on hold for a few minutes to check the 'internal bulletin'....so my opinion he is pretty legit.

Can't find this out on their webpage, but what is covered by applecare?

Does it cover replacing the battery?

I just got off the phone with Apple, and they said there is no internal memo regardng any forthcoming sale of Applecare for the iPhone in any of the four states and had no new info. Apple reps will not disclose anything without first disclosing it publicly.

Here is the letter I sent to Apple dated 07/25/07

Mr. Jobs,

It is my understanding that Applecare Protection Plans can be purchased in the State of Nevada for the entire product line Apple offers with the exception of the iPhone. On July 7, 2007 Apple released a statement saying that the Applecare Protection Program would be offered in mid late July. Please take note that this announcement was made well in advance of the fourteen day return policy by Apple. As of July 24, 2007 the Applecare Program was introduced for the iPhone however, my home state of Nevada was EXCLUDED. Now I am out of my 14 day return policy, was misinformed about Applecare by both ATT and Apple, and the only answer I get from Aplle is a resounding NO! Please address this issue as the Department of Business and Industry State of Nevada has told me that as long as the original manufacturer is offering the warranty and assuming the risk, no special license is needed. Here is a hypothetical: I now live in New York, I purchase an iPhone and the Applecare Protection Plan, 10 months later, I move to Las Vegas, 6 months later my iPhone breaks...is my Applecare PP void because I now live in Nevada?

Please help.

*They did respond with "possibly in the future"

Well....believe it or not.....that's what I know and and what the Apple sales staff told me...he actually put me on hold to ask his manager and told me explicitly a date where the Applecare will be available in these four states. I tested with him by asking 'Okay....so the Applecare will be available sometimes in August?'....He firmly answered it 'NO...the Applecare will on available on the X of Auguest (as I mentioned on the previous post...I forgot.)'

That's what I heard...and the staff at my local Apple store confirmed that Applecare will be available in the future....I don;t know why is the delay coz as far as I know...there is no special requirement for a manufacturer to issue extended warranty purchase.....and if Apple really leave these four states out...how will it sound?....Think of the sales...will Apple let it be? PLus....how many people will be outrageous and some wealthy one may even sue Apple for this....think of aftermath...plaese

buy it from a reseller or register it to a company. apple cannot sell it to you directly.
