I know that its possible to tether these devices to a laptop for internet using GPRS/EDGE - bt can you connect via wi-fi and thether???

If you are refering to connecting the Phone and the Laptop via Wi-Fi, and then using the EDGE connecting to surf on your laptop, then NO.
It would be nice to see it implemented. Something I would use.

you mean use your phones wifi as a wifi connection for your laptop? why not just get a PCMCIA wifi card for your laptop?? doesnt it have a slot for it?
and yes you COULD use your phones EDGE connection to connect to the internet using your laptop (via bluetooth). it will just be REALLY SLOW!

yes tethering is mostly used in ""HAVE TO"" situations... in most cases people would just use the laptops connection it self to view the web. but in cases where you dont have the connection you would connect your phone and surf off the edge network

But I want to surf wifi....
Heres the layout. I have an ANCIENT laptop that the IT dept has given me to use for phone programs - such as gain table editing on motorolas, and expierment programs. this has NO network connections. Its old... BUT I have a USB cable, and MDA, and a nearby wifi router. I would like to be able to connect my MDA via USB to the laptop and then surf the internet going from Laptop to USB to MDA to router via wi-fi..
I hope that makes sense now.
Thank you very much!
