Thinking Of Leaving Verizon, but to WHERE?

I'm currently on a Verizon share plan but was thinking of switching because I'm sick of Verizon charging for every little feature and taking certain functionality off of phones to force users to use their "pay" services.

I'm thinking of Sprint maybe because I do want to still be able to use GPS navigation on my phone. Also their "video packages" or whatever they call them sound somewhat appealing. If I get this right, if you subscribe to one of the packages, you won't have to pay for airtime or minutes or that when going on the mobileweb, viewing video, and downloading apps? Also, are there monthly fees for applications that you download like games and such? Also, what are the extra fees and taxes on the montly bill?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert.. but it's my understanding alltel is the best (assuming you can get service from them.. not in every market)

But they have roaming agreements with verizion and sprint and our currently carrying sprints data services too (EVDO), which is considered the best due to download (need revision A phone/device though)

Sprint is largely the same as Verizon....aGPS nav program, unlimited Internet plan for $15. Some apps and games are monthly fee, and some can be had for a flat fee. EVDO isn't as widespread, and when you're roaming on Verizon, you do NOT get EVDO, even if Verizon has it in the area. Individual SprintTV channels cost extra per month, same as Verizon.

AT&T is another option, but you need to buy a Bluetooth GPS reciever seperately for use with Cingular Navigator software if you want to use GPS.....AT&T also offers Rand McNally directions, so you can choose from more than one package.

Sounds like Sprint might be a better fit for you, but they're really not all that different from Verizon.

What little thing are you upset that you're paying for? Ringtones, Media, Wallpaper?

Fear not, my friend, I'm here to help.

For a modest fee of $10/month, _I_, not Verizon, but _I_ can give you access to all sorts of ringtones, wallpapers, and MP3s.

All you need to do is buy a data cable from ebay (usually about $6 shipped) and download this free software called BitPim. You can backup your contacts, upload virtually any sound file you have on your PC as a ringtone, upload new images, almost ANYTHING!

The only other thing you need to do is send me $10 for each month you want to use it (I prefer paypal) if you stop paying, I won't bill you without knowing you,it'll just magically stop working until you make your next payment.

Ok, sorry about that. But if Verizon is trying to dupe you for something, stick it to 'em with the Bitpim/Datacable/HoFo FAQs.

You need to look at where you will use the phone, where you live, work, play travel, etc., and pick the carrier that provides the best coverage. Look at the coverage maps but don't believe them. Talk to friends, family, coworkers, etc., to find out which carrier they have and how they like the service. You may find that Verizon is the best option.

Picking a carrier based on the phones they or features they offer is the wrong way to go.

Well, unlimited IN calling is a feature, and if the coverage areas are even remotely close and you know a lot of people who have VZW, then it wouldn't be such a wrong way to go.
