Sorry for asking such dumb questions. I am n00b in the Windows Mobile device.

What are the major differences between Smart Phone and PDA Phone?

I am interested in HTC S630 / Dopodo C730. I went to HTC website and I see they classified the Dopodo C730 as Smart Phone.

If I purchase a C730, would I be able to install any Windows Mobile 6 programs in the C730? Or would I have to go with a PDA phone if I want to install some 3rd party softwares?

I think I found out some info about Smart Phone vs PDA Phone.

Smart Phone does not have a touch screen, and it is more like a phone with PDA feature.

The PDA Phone has a touch screen and it is more like a PDA with phone feature.

So, if I want to surf the web, email (plan to use the Blackberry connect), and IM A LOT, should I really get a PDA phone? Or a Smart Phone (Dopodo C730) would be good for me?

Would I be able to install the following apps on the smart phone / pda phone?

1) Google Maps
2) some Java programs
3) create a new word / excel documents (not just edit the files which I sync from my PC to the phone)

You're pretty much right about the touchscreen as one of the main differences. The proper term is actually Smartphone vs Pocket PC and both have now been renamed to Standard (smartphone) and Professional (PPC). The programs are separated and are not compatible unless specifically stated. Probably around 95%+ of software out there will only work properly on one or the other platform but not both. As for which one is right for you, it's kind of hard to explain. My best recommendation would be trying it in person. Go to a store to see if there are demos for the Dash which will give you a good idea for smartphone and the Wing for PPC to see which suits your style better.

Yes for your questions and PPC has a better document editor than smartphone. There's also more software for PPC, but smartphone has some really good form factors like the C730 you mentioned. Just post any more questions you have.

You can do all three on both. Although Google Maps isn't as good as windows live search. And once you get some ppc/smartphone games you probably won't be playing java ones any more.
