It seems I have to disconnect my WLAN session to send sms. Is this normal? Is there a setting somewhere I can fix this?

Wirelessly posted (mripguru: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I would think you can't send SMS' over WiFi as this is typically a function of the cell network.

Sms are send through at&t's network. It'll never be able to be send over wifi, at least that's what i've been taught to know.

SMS / Voice calls requires "GSM". Surfing the net can be done on either WIFI(WLAN) or GPRS/EDGE. SMS can NOT be done on WIFI(WLAN) because traffic has to be sent through a phone network, to authenticate your active cellular number.

What happens if you shut your phone off for a few moments, then power it back on?

Still can't send SMS while connected to WLAN?

Try a restore?

Mine seems to work fine at home - I have a WAP, and I get FULL signal strength from the cellular network. What's different about your setup?

the OP, afaik, didnt mean sending it THROUGH wifi, just sending it through the cell network while also connected to wifi...

SMS works fine for me while connected to wifi. Only time I got an error was when I tried replying to someone who's phone would include a '+' in front of the phone number. I'd have to clear their message before being able to send them a text.

You are correct but the issues only seems to be when I am connected to 1 specific WLAN. I will have to look into the WLAN and see what is so special about it.
