Curve OR Pearl?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Planning to buy a new BB, but I can't decide. Which one do you guys/girls prefer BB Curve or BB Pearl White?

Posted by: Magik

I think it's a matter of preference in size. They basically have the same features, except the Curve has a 2 mp camera instead of a 1.2 like the Pearl. If you don't mind the curve being a little bigger, but with a full qwerty keyboard go for it. If you want the smaller form factor, but w/out a full qwerty keyboard go for the Pearl.

My preference was the Curve, and I love it.

Pearl is nice, fits right in a pocket but other say "...pearl is more for ladies", specially the white one - but it matches my G5.....

I have the Pearl (black version from ATT) and really like it a lot. I see more guys with it than girls. I was deciding between Curve and Pearl and went with the Pearl since it was smaller and fits easily in my pocket. I had come from an older BB with full keyboard and was skeptical about the Pearl's keyboard. I thought I really like the small aspect of the Pearl and let me try to the Pearl; if I don't like it then I'll return it for the Curve. Well, I still have the Pearl. I was suprised how easy it was to get use to the keyboard and how intelligent the keyboard really is. Candidily, the Pearl packs a lot in there for such a small device. In the end, both are great choices and it comes down to matter of preferences - size and keyboard.

I Had both the Pearl and, just recently, upgraded to the Curve.
The Pearl does not have AVRCP - Audio Visual Remote Control Protocol that allows you to listen to music with a BT headset; The Curve does.
The size can be a factor, but at have an inch in size difference, the trade off is clear.
Aside from a full keyboard, AVRCP, and a 2mp camera upgrade, there's little that sets these two phones apart. Consider the differences before you make your purchase.

hmm...that's thing about the curve - it has that features where you can listen to music with a BT headset or even a regular headphones...I think I'll grab the curve today - thnx guys

The Curve is THE RIGHT CHOICE.

Posted by: Magik

I think so too. Plus you have a bigger screen to watch videos on.

Count me on the Curve vote.

Loving mine 100% and I got the best deal. Paid $200+tax and received a $100 rebate.

Posted by: SDEEDY

I think I'll be honest as a Pearl user and state that I prefer the Curve for its bigger screen.

I got the Pearl which I'm still happy with, because it was cheaper.

GOT THE CURVE!!!! THE SIZE - WOW!!!, pretty slick and slim - I LIIIKE!!!lolol

you didnt get the best deal, fyi...

www.letstalk.com

i paid $99 for mine and got a $100 rebate, and i think they have an even better deal now.

but to the op, glad to see you got the curve . it was a no brainer for me, the pearl isnt that much skinnier, and i really didnt care for the suretype keypad. hope you enjoy the phone

Variety is the spice of life. I wanted the Curve but got the Pearl as there was no Curve available through the exchange department (it was too new). I would perfer the larger screen, but I am really liking the suretype keypad. I am glad you are happy with your device. As of yet there is no perfect device in my opinion as there is no one with built in GPS/WIFI/3G nd the media functions, but the second that that appears I will be on it.

Also the A2DP is what allows the streaming of music over the headset, the AVRCP is for controlling the headset through the BT (just a minor difference), and the Pearl can stream to BT headsets using the Dollar5 player (just can't be done natively, and it isn't in stereo currently as no A2DP in the device, but is rumored to be added in an upcoming OS upgrade the 4.2.2.** OS that is yet to be released). The Pearl has AVRCP as I currently have it on my device (have it enabled on a BT device). his is just for those wondering and still weighing the decision. Also the Pearl can control and change the color of the trackball, whereas the Curve can't, but the Curve can use a standard 3.5mm headset jack whereas the Pearl uses the 2.5mm cell standard headset. Just some moe minor differences.

AWESOME DEAL! But mine wasn't a new contract - not an extension to the contract either. So ... I guess we both got great deals!

Where did you get that info from?

I figured a2dp was a hardware related thing and not something that could be fixed via firmware update.

Why don't you try Opera Mini?

or

Posted by: squeakr

There is a KB reference to the streaming audio on the Pearl listed on RIM's site under tech issues. One person even called RIM about it and they said that some of the people there at RIM had it working on there Pearls. This is the same as the very latest OS also gives the Pearl the ability to use 4Gb memory cards (this is also one of those things that people thought was a hradware issue, so the hardware must be there as it was enabled with the latest OS update). The reference sas that the streaming is fixed in the 4.2.2.XX OS updates, but no one has seen this update as of yet, and the RIM rep wouldn't disclose who had that OS at the time. We are still waiting (on another site, one guy said he saw a 4.2.2.14 OS listed on RIMs site. No one else has seen it and are waiting a link o see if it is true or if maybe he had the devices confused and was looking at the Curve. We are all waiting with baited breath.)

Correction!
A2DP allows BT Audio Streaming! AVRCP allows for the REMOTE to control a devices audio/video playback - and to hear the AUDIO via the A2DP connection as well. I know you know this but you worded the two backwards so just the correction.

2 the PEARL IS CAPABLE of the A2DP built in.

NO. Hardware was not a factor in the Pearl NOR the 8800 all of them had BT v2.0 and the full BT Stack is there but the firmware didn't allow certain features. Gotta love firmware upgrades my friend.

Proof is in the pudding.

Problem

A Bluetooth Stereo Headset is able to successfully pair with the BlackBerry Pearl smartphone. However, the music audio is unable to be heard on the headset. Instead, the music comes out via the speakerphone.

Cause
The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.1 or earlier. The Bluetooth Stereo Audio Profile is not supported in BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 and earlier.

Resolution

Upgrade the BlackBerry 8100 Pearl smartphone to BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.2 or later. Refer to KB03621.

Additional Information
Current supported Bluetooth Stereo Headsets include offerings from Plantronics® and Jabra®.

Thanks!! If I can get stereo bt on the pearl I'd be happy with it.

Do what I did. I couldn't make up my mind. I went back and forth. Curve, Pearl, Curve, Pearl, Argh!

I signed up for service with T-Mobile and wound up getting a pearl for free, I then bought a unlocked Curve. Now when I want a change from the Curve, I switch my sim card to the Pearl.

I try to give them equal attention, but find myself spending more time with the Curve. I do have to admit, I think the pearl has a better build quality to it.

Posted by: squeakr

Yeah but that limits the ability to be instantly contacted through PIN or BB messenger as you would constantly have to inform others of the PIN you are currently using, as it is device specific. That could get real cumbersome it would seem. Doesn't it mess up your ability to get e-mail as well or are you changing it with the BES/BIS server as well each time you switch??

Posted by: proaud

Each time I switch, which isn't daily, all mail syncs without a glitch. Both phones have all the same info on them. My BB messenger contacts keep both pins active on BB Messenger. I will switch devices approx once every 2 weeks.

All I have to do is switch my sim card and then log on to T-Mobile and change pin's with the bis. All of my e-mails run through PinMe.com so there is no need to worry about changing each account.

PinMe.com will be going public soon.

Posted by: squeakr

Okay what is pinme.com, as you have peaked my interest?? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to discuss publicly. The website has no info at all. How soon to go public??

as long as their PINs don't change as frequently all he needs to do in the PIN message is type " mypin " the moment he types that & hits the spacebar it replaces it with the current devices PIN#.

see easy.
