Since most of the Japanese phone fans are sharp users, I thought I may as well post this here.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the new DoCoMo L704i. It is essentially a Chocolate with japanese interface, HSDPA and GSM.

Since LG is fairly easy to unlock, if the 704i can be unlocked... the thought of being able to use a FOMA headset here is pretty heat...

Just thought I want to share.

I really want to replace my Z800i

There is also an LED indicator at the base of the phone... I believe its for SMS...

Definitely the best chocolate so far!

verizon basterdized the chocolate to look like an ipod bleh at least rogers kept theirs looking like a chocolate and didnt even brand it on the exterior

OP I like your use of the bang symbol to imply not. It's doubtful the phone will be unlocked as I've never heard of any DoCoMo phone being unlocked, including the other LGs, Motos, or Nokias. I think the only hope for all of us hoping for future Japanese phone is for the gov't to pass the law banning carrier locking.

To yangj08: you do know that there are several variations of the Chocolate and the Verizon one is just one of them right? I'd guess this one is either based on a Euro/Asia UMTS/GSM model or could be a new one for just the Japanese market.

Maybe it's because if he posted in the LG forum people wouldn't really know a whole lot about the Japanese Chocolate (like when people post in the Samsung form about the Softbank Samsungs- the thread floats in and out of the front page). The Sharp forum seems to be where all the Japanese phone fans seem to gather.

I know now about the variations in Chocolate models- I'd love to know why Verizon screwed with it when they sold it in the US, though. And I'm pretty sure this is Japan-only. ...I really want DoCoMo to make a Helio-esque entry into the US market. Or a well-developed partnership with AT&T that allows them to sell FOMA phones in the US would be good too.

^yangj08. Exactly. I don't think they have a thread about this in the LG forum so I don't think they would even care.

Hmm... apparently this phone has GSM. You can check that out http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/product/foma/704i/l704i/ But then... I doubt people will start trying to unlock it... most people would rather get a "normal" chocolate.

Apparently doing all the electrical engineering stuff at school does NOT help you in unlocking stuff. xD
