Getting Max Battery Efficiency

Hey guys, I'm one of those picky asians who don't wanna over charge or under charge my phone so I don't have to buy a 2nd battery because I didn't ask this the first time.
So, I have a Sharp 703SHf (it's black =D) and according to the manual is says 3 bars is sufficiently charged, 2 bars charging is recommended, 1 bar charging is needed, no bars battery is dead.
My question is, should I plug in the charger when I hit the last bar or wait for it to fully drain and auto shutdown, which is what mine does and then fully recharge it?
Cheers.

Umm, when it hits three bars it's a bit above 25% full. As far as Sharp is concerned 25% or more is enough to ensure the 3.6 volts the phone needs, so that's why they say 'sufficiently charged'. The battery meter isn't helpful for the way you want to charge the phone.
Although with lithium-ion batteries you don't have to worry about overcharging or waiting for the battery to drain completely before recharging. That was with older battery technologies like NimH and such which had memories. LiIon batteries wear out from repeated charging/discharging.
This actually means the more often you keep the phone charged at full (or the less often you use the battery), the longer the battery lasts. That's why my 903 sits on its desktop charger when I'm at home. Modern chargers detect when a battery is full and reduce current to trickle feed mode - enough to keep the battery full but no more than necessary to avoid over-charging.

Also totally draining and recharging Lithium Ion batteries actually stresses them out more. You should just charge it whenever you can and nothing will happen. My 903 is almost 2 yrs old now and battery life is still very good. I can easily get 2.5 days out of it, with moderate, talking, txt, some mp3s and no camera.
