AT&T phone with best signal?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My mom just moved into a new office. It's actually a room that isn't even supposed to be an office - cinderblock walls, not close to the outside of the building, etc. Her T-mobile phone gets no signla in there, which gives me an even better reason to get them (my dad, too) off of T-Mobile.

Cingular appears to have the most signal in there, but it's spotty at best. My MPX220 has never had an incredible signal, but I can get about half my calls in there.

What AT&T phone has the best antenna? What would give her the best chance of getting the most calls? Price is an issue, as well. Thanks.

Newer phones? I don't know because I really don't have any money to keep buying phones and testing them.

look at the sub forums...

V3XX is regarded to have excellent RF

Nokia 6030 is on par with it and its only 30bucks shipped as a refurbished prepaid phone (pay as you go) i suggest you buy one and take it for a test drive.

Nokia's have a reputation of having EXCELLENT RF. I'm also speaking from personal experience. In my opinion, stay away from Motorola (although the Razr may be the exception to that "rule") and Samsung as far as regular phones go.

I've always had great RF with Motorola, coming from a V710 and V265 and a Nextel.

Agreed, V3xx is very good,

my friends house is very bad inside and even with his 6682/6030 and treo650 I top them all with my v3xx....

Seems like 3g signal is stronger too

any razr would be good. v3xx since it has newer UI.

This thread will probably be closed as there is an entire thread for this subject at the top of the forum, but the real answer is there is probably not a great deal of difference in any of the currently offered handsets, AFA, reception goes if one won't work the others won't either, without a signal booster.; but again go the top where this question has been ask and answered several hundred times, with any answer you might prefer. and that's what the 30 day exchange is for. You might have better luck with a cdma carrirer, but the carrier with the nearest tower is going towork the best of any regardless of handset assuming an 800 mh signal. best of luck.

A suggestion, since she's already on TMobile.

They offer a service called Hotspot @ Home, which basically involves a WiFi capable phone, using the wifi network to place/receive calls. It literally makes any accessible wifi network a TMobile cell tower.

I know this is the ATT forum, but this type of solution is perfect for her.

Yep, UMA was made for situations like this. Then there'll be no signal concerns at all. If they are going to switch to AT&T anyway, put in a repeater/BDA for that room. If you're only getting half your calls, that doesn't sound like a compelling reason to switch! 50% more crap is still crap.

The Sony Ericsson w810i has excellent reception. In my school, its the one phone that can get a signal in most places, and my school is like a black hole for reception.

If you want a Moto, go with the v3xx, Nokia, you cant go wrong with the n75, qwerty keyboard with good rf-go with a treo 680 or 750 if you prefer wm. Stay away from samsungs.

except samsung a717, it gets great rf, better than w810,6126,on par with v3xx.

Speaking of Samsung phones, my A707 works very well....better than any Razr ever did.

What AT&T phone has the best antenna?

If you are in a 3G area, then the V3xx might be something that you'd want to look at.

However, WCDMA takes more battery power and if it's struggling to pick between a zero-to-one bar WCDMA signal and a one-bar GSM signal, you will have huge problems with the battery life.

My personal preference from personal experience would be the K1 GSM Krzr. It seems to be able to make perfectly good calls with a one bar signal, and you could even hack it for full rate and still have better battery life than the V3xx would have.

IMHO.
