What to do here- 8125 bad ,8525 better, Kaiser best?

Over the weekend I lost touch screen capability on my HTC 8125 and after hard reset the phone is totally useless, ready for garbage, just 3 month after warranty expired! Went to AT&T store asking for help. Waste of time, they tried to sell me new 8525 for $450 with some rebate, since I am eligible for upgrade.

Today I called everywhere to find my options -
1/ HTC repair $175
2/ AT&T non-warranty replacement $349
3/ AT&T refurbished 8525 for $199 (or $175 w coupon)

Now should I get refurb 8525 (w new 2 y contract) or rather 8125 repaired (no contract) and wait for the Kaiser
or something else?

Thanks for any help/ideas!

I guess it really depends on how long you can live without your phone. The $175 for the 8525 is a good price. We know its supposed to get the WM6 upgrade this quarter. And its available now. And you might be able to offset the $175 price even more by selling your 8125 on eBay for parts.

The Kaiser will probably be a good deal more expensive since it will be new and there is no release date that I've seen for ATT. So the wait time and cost would be your factor for this route.

I cracked my 8125 screen.
Choices were fix for $175, purchase used 8125 on eBay for $175, or upgrade to refurb 8525 for $199.

The only choice that made any sense here was the upgrade.

I'm pretty happy with the 8525. There was some difficulty getting MS Voice Command to work right, need some software hacks.

Otherwise, the camera is much nicer. Plus I will now have a 3G capable phone when it comes out in my area, if I choose to do that.

well the kaiser is a lot better then both 8125 and 8525 but its is definetly going to be very expencive.... probly near the iphone price... there are sites selling reserved right now for $800 something....

If money matters little for you, wait for the kaiser as it is very close to be released, otherwise, get the 8525 with 2 year contract.

Well, yesterday I caved in and I upgraded to 8525. It took me a week to realize how badly I am missing PDA phone for all my business contacts and MS word and excel files.

What makes me mad the 8525 has exactly same screen, so with my luck I could have the same problem, most likely after one year when warranty expires.
Honestly I am sick to pay every year for new expensive PDA phone with no insurance available from AT&T (CS told me maybe at the end of this year)

So, I was hoping to eliminate this touch screen problem with Kaiser, but who knows what other problems Kaiser might have. And big question is how much worth it is to have much more expensive Kaiser w/o insurance?

At the end, it's a gamble and I am sure it will cost more and more to stay up to date...

Did you ever even consider a P4350?

I don't know what the differences between the two screens are, but they are different part numbers. One thing I can tell you is: The 8525 screen seems to be more fragile. I have beat the crap out of my 8125 and it always was fine. My 8525 was "tossed" onto my dining room table and ended up with a cracked screen.

Orly?

I'm in the same situation...get the 8525 now because I need a phone, or wait for the Kaiser. How do you know the Kaiser is "very close?" I've seen nothing to indicate it will reliably surface any time soon stateside.

I got a replacement LCD + Touchscreen from eBarf for about $60 ish from Gold electronics. Was a little scary changing it out, but there are instructions over on XDA. Now that I've done it I could do it in about 5 mins (I know that cause teh first screen was faulty...the replacement they sent went right in)

Whoa, I was just checking that. After reading some 8525 posts I am getting worried about "white screen" problem, so now I am not even sure if I keep 8525 or not.

However, the eBarf description is a little confusing. There suppose to be two LCDs for 8125 (Toppoly or Samsung), so is he selling some universal one or what? Is the replacement LCD quality same as original?
