Caller ID Info Display Options

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: phonuzer

I know that most of the talk regarding the information displayed regarding the incoming caller has been about the size of the thumbnail image related to the caller.

I would like to know if anyone knows of a program or a hack that will display the registered city and state associated to the incoming caller's area code; perhaps the local time as well.

This could/would be in addition to both listed contacts and unknown, unblocked incoming calls.

Thanks for any thoughts/answers.

nope, no such program exists but it would be a nice one tho for someone to make. I love how Sprint shows the state of a number being dialed or received. The local time and all that too would be awesome.

Thanks for the reply.

Below is a response, and then my reply (start at bottom for original query), from MS regarding this question.

I'm always looking to improve so if anyone has a constructive comment please chime in.

Cheers

Hello Praveen,

Thank you for your kind and timely reply but you surprise me (perhaps not) by your skated response to my query.

Does a manufacturer or carrier have to request an attribute and/or function before MS will spend any effort on it?

I may be wrong but I would assume that given a carrier’s system’s support for Caller ID and that a phone number is made available that the WM platform can recognize and then provide a thumbnail image of a registered contact that it would be a simple and logical next step for MS to make available a city, state and even local time keyed off of the incoming area code.

I would appreciate better effort from MS to address its customers needs and thank you for further consideration.

Best regards,
(phonuzer)

Message: Typically most cell phones display incoming caller information in this format (1(xxx) xxx-xxxx) unless the device owner has stored information associated to the incoming call number and then the name will be shown.

I would like to know if it is or will be possible to display, in addition to what is available now, the city and state of the caller, please?

Even if the information would have to be typed in or updated this would be a useful tool. (Ref: this Area Code Listing )

Thank you for any consideration and best regards,

BTW - this MS employee's name reminded me of a "Jewish" food called Kreplach; my Aunt's tasted just as bad as his reply.

I had a program called BB A-Code on my BlackBerry that did just this. If the phone number that was calling me was not in my phone book, it would show the city and state that the npa-nxx was from. It came in very handy when I was deciding whether to answer a call or let it go to voice mail.

This is what I'm speaking of (but for WM); thanks for the heads up!

Berry-a-Code is a Java file for BBs; here is a link to a nice thread discussing issues with different BB models.

Cheers

I'll fire off an e-mail to the dev for Berry-a-code. I would love to have this functionality for my winmo phone.

Please do; thanks.

I've done this as well through their site but would like to think that the more requests made for adaptation of Berry-a-Code to Smart(dumb?)phone, the greater chance that it may/will be done.

Cheers
