Late Model BMW's

My commander is just too horrible on gas, it doesn't make any sense for me just being one person to drive it to work. So i'm looking to get a bmw 3 series from 92-98 at a fairly cleap price (around $6,000-$7,000). Any of you BMW owners have any horror stories, or praise worthy remarks about your car? Anything I should look out for? Problem area's? I've done some reasearch but there's only so much those companies can supply.

I have a later model 2003 330i and I have enjoyed it since I bought it. Even after a couple years I still get ansy to drive her. I've never had any major problems, but I also am fortunate to have access to a few hoists/lifts to work on my car for free. I just do preventative maintanence and keep the fluids up and clean. I have 125,000km's on my car and it runs smooth and perfect. On the highway I get about 900-1,000km's of range for a full 66 litre tank. In the city/suburb driving I get around 550-650km's. You will love the feedback the car gives you through the steering wheel as you can feel the road and know exactly when the car is at traction limit if you like to drive that way once and a while. The handling will for sure be an advantage to avoiding drama situations on the road. Make sure the car is taken care of and it'll take care of you. Oh yeah when I drive my car it always gets worked. There is always a time I get her up to redline and she loves it!

My dad has a 1997 540i with 225,000km's on it with no major repairs with it and it still drives solid and the power is still immense from it's V8. He says he'll keep it until it shows signs of squeeking or when the engine wants to die. I don't think it'll be anytime soon. He also drive his car aggresively like me.

They'll drive forever if maintained, but being German, the parts are on the more expensive side. Otherwise, they're fantastic vehicles.

thanks i ended up with a 3 series conv. It's a nice little ride, cheap too, but the body needs a bit of work.

Congrats...make sure you keep the seals in really good shape or you'll end up with annoying squeaking when the roof is closed. That's my only gripe with convertibles since their bodies flex more than a hardtop. Enjoy your ride!!

I have a 1995 BMW 325i. I have only had it since November 2006. It is my first BMW and my favorite car! The handling is insane! I love everything about it. The parts are a little expensive but as long as you keep the maintenance up it won't be expensive.
