I was able to activate mine on a GoPhone plan without a SSN (I used my Canadian SIN instead, with my U.S. business address). I figured I'd fail the credit check with a Canadian SIN and my U.S. business address (since it's not on my credit file), but I wanted the GoPhone plan anyway, as I don't want a two-year contract for a phone that I'm not going to regularly be using. AT&T indicated that they'd be happy to activate a two-year contract for me as well if I wanted to either go through the proper credit-check channels, or visit an AT&T store and put down a deposit. As I understand it, you can also activate a two-year contract if you put down a deposit at the store (or otherwise provide relevant credit-check info and pass a credit check). The activation still has to be done via iTunes, but AT&T can provide a pre-approved credit code that you can punch into the activation screen, in which case you should be able to activate without entering an SSN, or at least entering a pre-defined code that AT&T can give you. |
