Pics of my modded Iphone with Crystal Film/BSE/Earphone mod

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: KhurramA

Hey guys,
I know a lot of you might be wondering what the crystal film screen protector and bestskinsever back protector might look like on an actual iphone.

I just applied the combo yesterday and thought i'd post some pics so you can judge for yourself whether your interested or not.

The crystal film is seriously amazing! You cannot tell at all that it's on there...
btw, if you see anything on the screen, it's just smudges and stuff no scratches.

Also, the BSE when properly applied provides fantastic protection to the back of the iphone and improves the grip as well.
You can really only notice if it you look at the corners.

Also, I have a pic in there of my modded v-moda bass freq headphones.

I soldered them to the original iphone earbuds so I could use the mic functionality without having to give up the sound I love of my v-modas.
but that mod has been around for a while...

The rest of the mod is a theme/skin from modmyiphone.com...I credit the guys over there for it and especially the guy who created the skin. I'm sorry I can't recall his name right now.

If you have any questions...feel free to ask.

looks good..i cant wait to get mines

Looks good. I have Shieldzone's Invisible shield on right now and just ordered the Power Crystal Film set from Apple.com.

Posted by: RyanM

looks good

Very nice pic's and I think your icon's are fantastic choice.
Looks really clean and professional. Nice job!

Posted by: MeGaX

i Hate you i couldnt get the corners to stick right with the BSE and i removed it only to get a scratch on the back of the phone a day later!
But the good news is i no longer have that phone but urgh at the back protector

V-Moda already has the V-Moda Vibe Duo which is the V-Moda Vibe but with the mic built in and also with the gunmetal and black design to match the iPhone. Next month they are coming out with the V-Moda Vibes that have the same functionality as the Apple iPhone earbud's forward/pause/play button.

Posted by: CoRupT

So how can i mod my iphone like that with the same icons but i dont want to reorder my iphones icon and dont really need the fieldtest buttons. It seems like a lot of work with Mac OS

Posted by: Delta

Can you describe (or show me a link) on how you did your headphone mod? Thanks.

Posted by: absjazz

Great work man! Very tastefully modded and protected. I'm definitely going to look into those shields. Thanks for the pics.

Posted by: bklynjava

Looks excellent and just for the record the Theme is designed by Digitalkid56 his work is Excellent.

Digitalkid56 was nice enough to post his themes on myiphoneforums.com for download as well. LINK

Other than that the crystal film screen protector and BSE are not even noticeable.

Nice work

Posted by: KhurramA

here's the link for the headphone mod
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/05/...ud-replacement/

Also, the only way I know of right now to mod the icons is still the loooooong way.
Thanks for the compliments guys

where did you bought those protectors?

The duo's are 99 and I've tried them out and did not like the sound as much.

So I figured why not go ahead and solder on the ones I already have and love

Posted by: gujulude99

How do you install themes onto your Iphone?

Posted by: jwmcgee1

I would love to do the headphone mods, but soldering is one thing I don't attempt!

I need to find someone in OKC that can do it!

I actually never did soldering before either..

However, I'm in my final year of dental school, so working in small places with intricate detail is a skill that i've acquired!

Posted by: CoRupT

Can you help me with installing the whole theme/skin? Im not to good with command prompts i got phonedmg into my system and all the jailbreak stuff and ifuntastic but i dont want to mess up with the command prompts. would it bad to follow the "INSTAL COMMAND" text file and copy and paste?

Posted by: jwmcgee1

Lucky you!!!

I am a retired network manager and not really used to working in small places. I guess I could give it a shot, but I am afraid to ruin 2 sets of headphones!

Posted by: Dylan

Reminds me of a riced out car. If that's your thing....

I did it on a mac...
if your on a mac, I can send you a command list...
I think the windows commands are probably the same

Posted by: CoRupT

I have a macbook I would love it if you sent it to me. and maybe a little guide? I followed this guide and i can get up to the point until the command list

http://www.modmyiphone.com/wiki/ind...Iphone_skinning

Posted by: joecartoon22

were you able to find the BSE at an apple store? how long did the skins take you to put on and was it difficult?

Posted by: turbo-sc

I also have the BSE, and it's probably one of the greatest skin's I've bought.

I like your theme / skin as well, nicely done

try this guide, I found it much easier to follow as it tells you exactly what to do with moving the icon files back and forth as well as commands
http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone...stem_icons.html

then there is the command list if you are using the same GUNMETAL REDUX skin from modmyiphone.com
remember copy and paste the directory
then once you press enter then copy and paste the putfile command
let me know how it goes

Also remember for whichever file your putting make sure you have dragged that icon from the subfolder into the phonedmg folder.
And then when you do the next putfile command remember to put back the previous icon into the subfolder from which it came and drag out the new icon from the subfolder you are now in.

it's all laid out pretty easily in the link I gave you.
Good luck

you should have waited for it to dry alittle then it will have a better chance of sticking.

exactly, that's the key.

I didn't even do the corners first.
I put on the back piece and just made sure it was lined up properly.

I did not touch the corners till about half an hour later when I pressed them down for a few mins to check if they would stay....which they didn't.
Then I left em alone for another 15 mins and gave it another shot.

They stuck perfectly with hardly any air bubbles.
What air there was I easily squeezed out.
Then I applied constant pressure on each corner individually for about 5 mins to make sure it would stick.
Dont worry if they dont stick down all the way, just wait it out, they WILL stick eventually...dont force it.

Credit given again to digitalkid56 who made the entire command list as well as the theme

oh crap u copy and paste the files in it and leave them there? cause i would remove the files out of the folder after i did the command prompt

Posted by: KhurramA

say your doing the sms icon

You drag the icon png from the sms subfolder into the phonedmg directory.

Then you do the command to get into the SMS directory
Then you do the putfile command.
Then you remove the icon that you put in the phonedmg directory back into the subfolder for the sms icon.

Then drag the next icon your using from the subfolder into the phone dmg directory and repeat the steps..

just like it shows in the picture on the hacktheiphone link...

im sorry for the questions cause im confused. i get the dragging in and out but do i just put the icons back in a folder on my desktop or does that subfolder go into the phonedmg folder?

The subfolder you put the icon back into should be in your phonedmg...but I dont see the harm of it being on your desktop..

it just needs to be out of the phonedmg directory because you cannot have more than one file named icon.png (which they are all named) in the phonedmg at one time.

That is the reason for having to add it then remove it

ok i think i finally got you. all the subfolders are in the phonedmg folder but you take each one out of the folder when adding at a time then after the command put it back in the folder. i see my problem is i didnt have any of the subfolder in the phonedmg folder so of course the files aren't there. damn im exhausted ill give it a try tomorrow. thanks a lot for help i appreciate it

Posted by: CoRupT

Thanks i finally got it done! the other guide was kinda confusing and didnt say anything about the sub folders! that was the biggest problem i had before

Posted by: KhurramA

Hey guys i'm happy you finally got it!
enjoy!

Posted by: CoRupT

THe only thing is the new SMS icon for the dock has a few white pixels that isnt full black. but that can be fixed im sure. How come there isnt any text for the dock? i guess ill just replace them with a different icon set thanks for all the help!

Are you on a mac or a pc?

I dont understand why you wouldn't be able to copy and paste the commands..
if you can't do it..just type them out exactly as you see them in the command list..remember do the cd/ directory one first to change to whatever directory your supposed to be in..

Then after you press enter...then do the command for putfile...
