Deciding on a new phone

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So I have Verizon and I em eligible to upgrade in late October. The type of phone I am looking for would be something that has:

- Decent camera with video capture/playback
- Decent keypad or QWERTY keypad...I average about 5,000+ texts each month
- Ability to browse the web and have it not be a horrible experience (talking about quality, not how fast pages load)
- MP3 player
- Decent Speakerphone
- Bluetooth
- USB Transferring
- Good reception
- Good battery life (if it has poor battery life and has an extended battery I'll most likely purchase it)

I think that's all....is there even a phone like this out there? I was really wanting the Blackberry 8703e but it doesn't have a camera...

So yeah any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's phones out there, but they're not available on Verizon.

Your best bets would probably be either a Treo or an XV6700.

I'd get out of Verizon and switch carriers in a heartbeat if 95% of the people I talked to didn't have verizon. =(

Maybe they are going to be available on Verizon soon? I am not eligible until late October (like the 28th)

Not likely...the 6800 (Mogul) might come out soon, but that's about it. That's basically the next version of the XV6700.

CDMA isn't a priority for a lot of mobile phone manufacturers. They usually develop for GSM/UMTS first, so there's a larger selection.

And do you know why that is?

Yep. There's a bigger worldwide market for GSM; the worldwide CDMA market is relatively small. You develop for the largest market first, because that's where the most sales come from.

Ahh so countries outside of the US are mostly GSM then?

Posted by: npaladin2000

For the most part yes, with the exception of South Korea (They use CDMA primarily) and Japan (who use a bunch of protocols, few of which are compatible with anything here).

Which Treo would be better? I was reading some reviews on the XV6700 and there were some cons that pretty much break the phone for me..

Thanks for your help by the way.

Which one depends on your needs....and whether or not you like Windows Mobile or PalmOS. I think the Windows Mobile ones can have WiFi added on, whereas there's no drivers for PalmOS. But some (lots?) of people like PalmOS better.

Hmmm........

Anyone have any other ideas possibly? I can upgrade in 2 days.

Motorola Q9m? It just came out and it has all the features you list above.

Hmmm will it allow me to view youtube videos?
