RAZR battery dies quickly

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I doubt there is anything I can do about it but maybe theres a setting that would help.

At work cell phone service is very spotty throughout the building. Most of the time at my desk I get no service. My battery dies quicker than it should because I am always searching for a network. Anyway it's a RAZR from AT&T.

Any settings that would help preserve battery life while there is no network coverage?

well my v3xx battery lasts for like 2 days or more it is the only phone that i have (no landline). when i had my 8525 that used battery like there was no tomorow and when i was in a hospital for 8hrs a day it would be like 50% dead b/c it was always looking for a network. so more or less what im saying is you may have dud battery b/c that phone used alot of power (8525) and i still made it a day with no network conditions. and that i get 2+ days with my razr for email, java apps talking, texting i think your battery may be bad

The indicator on my screen shows the power drops off fast, but when I look at the battery life from the status option it's always 1/2 full or better.

I disable bluetooth, turn off screensavers, put the backlight to 20 seconds, network settings to medium speed to prolong battery life.

get a new battery man..

you didnt state how long you've had the phone but the lipo batteries included with ALL phones dont last forever and their storage capacity diminishes the more you charge them and use them... so when it was new it would last a couple days, now it lasts half a day or less?? its the battery. replace it, this should be "common sense"

go to ebay and pick up a genuine replacement battery for like $10- $15 shipped. unless you want to go to your service provider and pay $40+ for the exact same battery.

orlee

P.S. i doubt it takes much more power to search for a network that it takes to keep that network active and current.

I'm not sure where in my post i said the battery died in half a day or less.

I got one on ebay tonight so we'll see how it works.

i was speaking in general terms... meaning if it doesnt last as it did before then you have a weak battery...

this applies to EVERYTHING that uses batteries

goodluck and let us know if it lasts longer now. I have 2 RAZRS and had 4 batterys for them.

When the provider service is spotty, depending on your network search setting, the phone is constantly searching for service which drains the battery faster than normal. That assumes of course that all the other elements of battery maintenance being equal.

3G does use quite a bit more power too...

Which is why I still like my edge devices

Try filling up the battery fully, then with the phone turned off plug the battery in and recharge the phone till it says charge complete...Dont turn the phone on during this time though. I did that to the battery of my v635 and it works for 2-3 days now not 8hours like before lol.

I agree. Mine does around 2.5 to 3 days. It easily did 3 to 4 in the start but i guess over charging has affected it a little. Hey but do check razrbattery(dot)com, some useful tips there.

Interesting. Reading the above recommended reference: "razrbattery(dot)com" yielded the follwing (quote),
"More MOTO RAZR battery is consumed when you are using

GPRS, surfing the internet; Bluetooth; Calling;
Playing Games; Listening to Music; AND
When you are in low signal, no serivce or limited coverage area."

Interesting indeed. There are some tech threads that go into the additional power requirements needed to maintain/search for towers in low/no signal areas vs. the power requirements at "idle" when a strong tower signal is present.

Then again, razrbattery(dot)com also says this.
Quote:
Reserve battery power
If your RAZR V3 has run out of battery and you need to make that last emergency call then follow this simple procedure that gets you at least 6-10 minutes weather you talk or don't. When your battery meter is down to one bar, turn the phone off, wait for about 30 seconds and then turn MOTO RAZR V3 back on. This will start up the reserve battery. But remember don't do this too often as this will reduce the battery life of your MOTO RAZR V3 in long term.

The spelling of whether as "weather" should say enough about this site, but also the entire section about this so-called "reserve battery" just makes it even better.

With no apologies for that site whatsoever since it was referred by the previous poster, the misspelling of weather for whether along with the misuse of then for than occurs so frequently in national news publications you wonder from what grade school of 'journalism' the copywriters are hired... that said, "reserve battery"? what the....?
