Blackjack on T-Mobile - Manual and Preferred Network Selection

One question for those of you who have a Samsung Blackjack on T-Mobile (USA): I cannot get Manual Network Selection or Prefered Network selection to work over the network.
In SETTINGS>PHONE>ALL CALLS>NETWORKS. Press Menu (Right Soft Key). Select "Preferred Networks", or "Find a New Nework". My phone comes right back and says "The settings could not be saved".......
For some reason, if connected to my PC via USB, it will all work ok. It downloads the list of prefered networks, and it finds new networks. Has anyone on T-Mobile noticed this with their Blackjack?, and is there a fix out there that anyone knows of?

What do you need to use this for anyways?

Most of the time I wouldn't use these options. But when travelling, maybe you would need to manually select a network? I got caught with this before, when travelling internationally, and it was the only way to get connected.
Perhaps it has something to do with security settings?
Anyone? Never have had this problem before - does the same thing with WM5 and WM6......

Never mind.
Seems it does not work on the tower when I am at work.
Works fine in other locations........so all is well.

Actually it is not tower specific. The BJ has problems hanging up at times on the data connection. So when this happens just go into comm settings and click "more" and release cellular data. Do the same when internet suddenly does not work either. I got tired of this witht he BJ, so i got a Tmobile dash now and it never has these problems.....

Thanks, I think you solved it.
Using Activesync Direct Push when at work, and the data connection has to be OFF for network selection/preferred networks to work. If I turn direct push off, it consistently works.
By the way, I came from a Dash and I can say that I do prefer the Blackjack. IMHO it has a better keyboard, real volume control, jog wheel (i like this a lot), and seems to run really stable (on WM5). Battery life is as good on Edge, even using the standard battery. Didn't use wifi either. I got fed up with having to force a disconnect for Data to work on my Dash, believe it or not. Perhaps it's more a problem with WM than the hardware...?
Thanks again for the reply...

I definitely miss the scrollwheel and lightness of the BJ but using WM6 on the dash is a big improvement at least for me. And the wifi too is useful at times......i may upgrade later to a samsung i620 when it gets cheaper since it has the form factor and WM6.....

Yes, WM6 has it's advantages that's for sure. But, seeing as I'm cheap and refuse to pay any carrier more than $6 a month for data, I am better off with WM5 at the moment. I use the proxy, and it works consistently and quickly on WM5 as opposed to WM6, which works but is slower. I only need one GPRS and one Proxy setting this way, and everything I need works well. Exchange, Pop, IE, etc, etc.
Actually, when I think about this thread subject, having to ensure data is disconnected prior to manually searching for a network is a no-brainer of sorts. In theory, I should only need to manually search for a network if I am NOT connected in the first place...............ha ha
Thanks again though, your info was invaluable and allowed me to know there is nothing wrong with the BJ..
