Update affects visual voicemail?

I searched and didn't see this posted...but here's my issue...

My visual voicemail will NOT work....when I go to phone and click the voicemail button, it says "Calling voicemail"...like it should on older phones. When someone calls me, it just says "The subscriber you are trying to reach is not available" or something like that. Well no one has a way to leave me a voicemail. I noticed it started doing this right around the time I did the update for the iPhone through iTunes...is anyone else having this problem?

I figure it is one of two things, because I called a friend of mine that has an iPhone, and his is working fine, but he also has not done the update. My roommate and I have both done the update, and neither or ours is working. The only other thing is...the same day I did the update, I also called ATT and upgraded my family plan from 700 minutes to 1400 cause I noticed we were coming really close to our minutes. Do you think the rep could have messed something up on my plan? We are on a plan together, me and the roommate, so if she messed something up, that would have affected both our lines.

That's really weird. Did you change your plan or anything in the last few days since you did the update? I thought about it, and my billing cycle ends tomorrow (the 4th) so I told them not to change the plan til tomorrow so it isn't pro-rated, so I don't think that would have affected it because nothing has technically been changed yet, unless the rep did something else on there I didn't know about...I guess we'll find out, I'm on hold with ATT right now. I have no idea why it isn't working, I thought it may just be down, but it's now been over 2 days, so I figured it was something else...

The problem is your password isnt stored in the phone which is making the phone call for the voicemails. Store your password by going to phone->change voicemail password.

Should be good from there. Additionally, if you never set a password, the just click ok without entering anything.

Good luck!

Where do you do that? Because I can't even GET to the visual voicemail...when I click the voicemail button it directly says "Calling voicemail"..if you are talking about settings --- phone --- change voicemail pw, i don't even have that option

This happened to me as well when I uninstalled iTunes. To fix it, go to your Visual Voicemail. Wait until the operator voice tells you to put in your password and do so. Your Visual Voicemail should return.

Still didn't work. =( I didn't even have a pw set for it.

i just left myself a voicemail.
Then the iPhone prompted me for a password. Then it worked.

Thanks...I had been on hold but the call kept disconnecting. I have to wait til I can get to a landline, and then call customer support AGAIn, blah

Well it got fixed...apparently when I changed my rate plan, the rep forgot to remove the basic voicemail that comes with phones...and it was trying to override the visual voicemail, because the minute she removed the traditional voicemail, both phones immediately started working again.
