Tell Me Soon... (new models)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My entire family (except me ) is switching to at&t, and I must say that the selection of phones right now is pretty crappy.

I really prefer Nokias to Motorolas, and I wanted my mom and sister to get Nokias, but none of them have that pretty feminine appeal.

Are they picking up the 5300 soon? I would hope so,m but I'm doubtful because T-Mobile's really putting their mark on that phone.

There's always the pink V3xx, but they need phones with 900 MHz on it. There's the K1, but I don't understand why you'd pay $150 for that with a two year contract when I can get one on Motorola's site unlocked for $214.

Can anybody tell me: when are new models coming in? The selection now isn't too good.

Tell me you love me! Tell me soon!

I think AT&T's phone selection is actually the best in the biz. What in AT&T's line-up, exactly, do you find lacking? Besides, um, "pretty feminine appeal"?

Nokia's fashion (and, yes, feminine) phones, the 7000 Series, aren't available through any carrier - and they probably won't ever be - but you can buy them unlocked and use them on AT&T.

Anyway, a little phone called the RAZR2 should be hitting AT&T soon - the keyword here being "should." It's even a pretty maroon color, which will hopefully make up for the ancient UI.

The V9 should be here by the end of the year,

N75 is pretty nice and $99.99 if you like Nokia

Oh, and Sony Ericsson's Z750 will hopefully be hitting AT&T soon. And it comes in pink.

I'll definitely agree that they're better than Verizon or Sprint. Each carrier has sort of a "primary manufacturer", or one that makes up most of their selection. at&t's primary manufacturer now is definitely Samsung, which I am not a big fan of. I had bad experiences with some CDMA Samsungs I had a few years ago, but I am interested yet reluctant to try their new GSM models.

Looking at their lineup, in terms of the mobiles on there that I, a 15 year old male, would choose, I really like the 6126, 6085, v3xx (though no 900), N75, K1, iPhone, and maybe the A437 and SYNC (though see above.)

In terms of mobiles my sister, a 20 year old female with no clue of mobile phone technologies, she likes phones with feminine appeal, and as of now, all of those are just the v3xx, V3, K1, and maybe the red A437.

Most of the mobiles on the lineup also aren't competitively priced. I can find most of those Motorolas unlocked unbranded for not much more.

I guess the phones from my carrier (T-Mobile) that I miss on at&t's lineup are the 5300, Z3, K1 in other colors, V3i, 6103, and the PEBL (though it's been discontinued from T-Mobile.)

I suppose I'm just frustrated at Nokia for not paying attention to the US market by not putting 850 in their mobiles. I was planning on getting my mom and sister 7370's, but I think 850 MHz is too crucial to not have on at&t.

I wish I could get them pretty and functioning Nokias, but Motorola seems to be our only option.

When do you expect the RAZR2 to be hitting up at&t? And the V8 or V9?

We need to switch sometime between August 19th and August 28th. If nothing special comes out soon, I will just order my mom a PEBL and my sister a purple V3i from Motorola's site.

get your sister a red v3xx, it's a solid phone (and yes I'm a big Nokia fan too), the UI is much faster and more intelligent than the v3i. Hell get your mom one too.

The N75 is a great Nokia phone, especially at the current price, and btw you can unbrand it yourself at the moment.

Rumored release date is August 24th.

You can buy the Nokia 5700 (unlocked and unbranded) for you mom and sister. Add this to the fact that there are many other (unlocked and unbranded) Nokia phones that are quad-band. Waiting for at&t to release these phones has never been my forte. If it's released and I want it I buy it. Sure it cost more, but since freedom isn't free and I'd rather pay for the freedom not to extend my contract and not lose certain features that you have with unlocked/unbranded phones.

Nokia N75
V3xx
Nokia 6085
Blackjack

they are all pretty good phone models, but cingular/at&t use to have like unique phones like the slider samsung which is still online, the w600i, Samsung 'Transformer'. i think t-mobile has better styles though.

Just to throw this idea out, the Pantech c150, as basic of a phone it is, looks like it's got some serious feminine appeal. My wife has been complaining about the same thing regarding AT&T lineup... "all the phones are ugly". But the moment she saw the c150, she said, "ya ya, that one is cute!"

However, since it's a new phone, I haven't found any comprehensive reviews for it, nor have I ever used a Pantech phone. But from what it looks like, the UI is similar to Nokia's from locking the keypad (Menu->*) to T9 text input. Might want to give it a look if you are ok with candybar phones. This will most likely be my wife's next phone, barring any horrible reviews of it.

EDIT: OOPS, just re-read your post, you need the 900MHz option, I don't belive this phone has it, sorry, please disregard!

the nokia e62 was a sweet device, although they screwed it up with the java nag.

Posted by: char777

Yeah, I'd get them V3xx's, but my sister's spending a year in Italy, and I think she needs 900 MHz. I also think my mom needs it because we'll be travelling internationally a lot, too.

They love the 5700, but that's a bit pricey for $350.

I'll see if we can hold on until August 24th for the RAZR2. What color, and how much do you expect it to cost?

The RAZR2 V9 (AT&T's version) has thus far only been shown in maroon. I imagine some shade of silver or grey couldn't be too far behind - people love grey handsets.
