Blackjack or Treo 750

I'm trying to decide on the Blackjack or Treo 750. I can get the Blackjack for $99 and the Treo for $250 w/ 1 gig miniSD.

I have a database that I need to run and it will run on either. It may be easier to use with a touch screen though.

The main reason I like the Treo is the touch screen and larger screen. I like to keep my phone in my pocket, not on a clip. Can the touch screen be locked?

Anyone who has had both, which do you prefer? If you could buy them both for the same price, which would you choose?

I don't have the Blackjack. I have the Treo 750 and had the Treo 650 and 600 before them (similar physical design, different OS.)
I keep my Treo 750 in my pocket, and yes you can fully lock the screen. I have no problem keeping it in my pocket, it's quite comfortable but it's just a bit heavy if you have loose shorts.

The screen/buttons auto lock when you press the end key to turn off the screen. It's configurable to instant lock, lock within 5 seconds (what I use,) and 30 seconds after turning off. You can also optionally lock the screen when you're on a call so that only the buttons work (cheek won't press things.) I don't have that problem and don't use that feature but it's there.

The screen resolution on the 750 is 240x240, on the Blackjack it's 320x240 (land scape mode.)
So the Treo 750 has a lower total resolution, but the same vertical resolution meaning you don't have more vertical real estate, but you have a wider width for page viewing.

I see no reason for you to not get the Treo 750. I'm very happy with it. If you think it will be easier to use your apps with a touch screen, then it may be a good choice.

But I have not use the Blackjack.

It sounds like you have access to Premiere. If so, note that you should get another $25 off for using Premire. Also you can still send in the $100 mail in rebate on top of that to get the price of the Treo 750 down to $125.
Let me know if you need help figuring out how to do this, I'll send you a PM.
Download the mail in rebate form from this page:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...smartphones.jsp
Though it didn't come from the premiere site, the do honor it even with premiere orders.

For that matter there's a $100 rebate on the Blackjack. So $99 on Premiere - $100 rebate = Free blackjack.

I am supposed to have access to the Premiere site. Having trouble getting in though. The company I work for has directions on how to access it, but the link they provide is an old Cingular URL which redirects to a password protected AT&T site. I'm waiting to talk to someone who knows the login.

How do you come up with $125 for the Treo? That would be great! The prices I quoted above are from a local AT&T store.

The Treo is $400.
There is a $150 discount on Premiere for getting it with a $40 data plan.
There is a $25 online discount just for using Premiere
Total = $225
Now download the mail in rebate (link in my previous post) for $100 off for having a data plan.
Here's the direct link to the PDF:
http://www.wireless.att.com/global/...vice_083107.pdf
Total=$125

If you're doing an upgrade, rather than do "device upgrade only", add the device to your card and actually pick a new voice rate plan. You can just pick the same one you have if they have it. Then make sure you add the $40 PDA Max data plan to the order and it'll calculate $350 in the cart and also show $25 additional discount.
There is an $18 upgrade fee, though, for most companies.

If you're ordering a new line of service, then you'll get the same price just by adding the voice and data plan.

Lastly, if you buy it in the store for $250, you can still go online, download the rebate form and send it in in addition. That is assuming the $250 price doesn't already include the mail in rebate.

Note, you can change/remove your data plan at any time after you get the phone (best do it after getting the rebate in 4-6 weeks) and you can always call and make changes to your voice plan if you change your mind on what you picked or want to go back to a voice plan you previously had.

You should also be able to mail in for the 1GB memory card or free keyboard via a mail in form. See here:

I have both and prefer the Treo to the Blackjack. Mainly for the larger screen. The Treo comes with Word and Excel, its an add-on for the Blackjack. I bought the Treo from Premier for $99. It's a refurb., but I can't tell the difference. It looks new and has all the accessories with it.

i had both and prefer the blackjack to the treo (my bj was actually more expensive since i bought it earlier).

i had no real use for touch screen- i preferred layout of bj keys- easier to type with one hand and not fear dropping it since treo keys are way lower- the lack of 3G+ additional size + out the box it was just crappier imo..battery of treo sucked- basically the normal treo battery lasts about as long as the bj on regular battery... bj was/is the way to go for me.

with the ext. battery on the bj it's still about 50% the size of treo and can last a LONG time...

I have both and love both - especially after installing WM6 on the 750. Now both devices are fast and easy to tether with a laptop.

I agree that BJ with the extended battery wins over the battery life of the 750. However there are extended batteries for 750. Seidio just came out with an OEM-sized 1600mah - though the price is a bit steep at $49.95 + shipping.

sure, but i'm not one to tweak phones. as i said, out the box, bj= better.

sure you can BUY and extd battery for the treo, but how much larger does that make it? it's already bulky enough!

Obviously it's a personal choice.

BTW, if you read my post in detail, there's already an extended battery that does not add size to it (i.e. OEM-sized).
