Ok, so today I got a pre-paid AT&T phone to test out reception... if all goes well, I'll be switching from Verizon and THIS is the phone I think I want...

I played with the phone in the store for a while, but there are a few things I couldn't figure out (I did look through the sticky thread, but these are things I didn't see covered):

- Is there a button to activate the camera? I didn't see one, and I'd like to think I can get the camera rolling without going through the meus

- Can you display pictures FULL SCREEN when looking through your photo gallery? I noticed it squeezes them down into a small window when browsing

- Can the outer screen be activated to quick-check the time? On my old LG, pressing any button with the phone closed activated it - I couldn't get this to happen on the A717

- How is the MP3 player? Do all AT&T phones use the same player? Does it sort with id3 tags? Can you store MP3s in multiple directories (such as albums) or, like Verizon, do you have to dump ALL your music in one folder?

One last thing... I saw the NewEgg deal where this phone is free (they want almost $200 in store)... if I print the page and bring it in, will they price-match it? If not, do I just order the phone from Newegg and sign up for service through them? How does it work if I'll need a number ported? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just always assumed that if I signed up for service it had to be done in-person in one of the stores!

If its like the A707 then you'll need to press the volume rocker for like 3secs for time to show (yes it sucks!)

Price matching is a long shot so you'll probably end up going through newegg. They should be able to perform the port on newegg no problem.

No all the mp3 players are manufactuer specific, if I'm not mistaken you can create seperate folders for your music... at least different playlist.

You will be able to view pics full size... Hope all this helps!

Yes you can display pics full screen, mp3 player is pretty good about the same as w810i,you can create your own files. hold the outer button for 2 sec and it will display the time, and you could set the outer display to stay on all the time, showing signal bars and battery meter and profile.

I love my A717, I've been able to do some amazing things with it (tethering, running tons of Java apps, playing all sorts of music and videos). It's also very pleasing to touch and use all the time. There is one thing I can't figure out. Is there any way to run a GPS program with an external Bluetooth GPS reciever? Any help with this would be grand. Thanks

This weekend I'll go around town with my AT&T rent-a-phone and if it all goes well I'll be leaving Verizon and getting that A717!

How do you display the pics full screen? When I go back into the store I want to try it...

Also, is there a quick hotkey to activate the camera? I couldn't figure out how to do it other than going through the menus...

Hey no problem, for pics, just go to the thumbnail image and click, it will bring up the 3/4 image, then just hit direction pad left or right to bring up next image, its not really full screen about 3/4, on mine, but I think you change how the picture is taken by the camera to give you full screen.
As far as quick key the fastest way to get to camera is to assign the camera to options key on main screen, it takes two clicks, I dont think there is any quicker way, the a717 doesnt have any auto lock, so I think they made it so you cant accidently take pics or other things you dont want while it in your pocket.
