I thought that the n75 had an ATT branded version? do i need to get an update for it??

Posted by: GearTripper

you have an unbranded N75 or a Cingular branded one? if it's unbranded, why on God's green earth would you want the AT&T branding?

Posted by: opdaddy

i have a cingular branded n75

Posted by: CyberMoto

So far all the N75's are cingy. No AT&T yet.

I was just at an ATT store looking at the N75 (I am a new customer with a week-old Nokia 6126 but I think I want a 3g phone and I am thinking about exchanging it). I asked when the ATT branded versions would arrive (I heard this phone needs some kind of firmware upgrade so that is is not as buggy) and I was told that they might discontinue the phone all together.
Anyone knows if this is true or has heard the same? I don't know what to do and I need to decide before my 30 day period ends.
Thanks!

I have decided that I really don't care if it's not ATT branding. I wouldn't care, it's an awesome phone, especially if you have a decent size memory card.

I've had my N75 since last Tuesday. I've had 0 problems.

right now the phones are on back order again. so hopefully that means they are selling well. or maybe too many returns

the cingular firmware is not good and i debranded mine to the regular nokia firmware, and the phone is rock solid and a better phone. search it on this forum, you will be a happier n75 owner

It's definitely backordered, but I don't know if that's because they're changing the branding, or discontinuing it.

It might improve their sales, though, if stores carried the thing. I don't have a Cingy/AT&T store around here, but BestBuy RadioShack, and WalMart here all sell AT&T service and phones, and NONE of them carry the N75 in-store.

would they really discontinue the n75? if that does happen, nokia and s60 3g is doomed for all eternity.

You must be joking First off, IMO they are going to discontinue it soon. The sales, from what I have read on HoFo, have been less than spectacular. The price drops to nearly free on a phone that has more features than other phones costing more. The ATT branded phones still have not arrived and all we have seen is a picture of one months ago.

As for Nokia and US 3g, well, SymbianGuru called it when he said a top-of-the-line S60 phone is coming and it is going to be a version of the N95 with HDSPA, not just UMTS.

Nokia has a bunch of 3g phones in their lineup, their European lineup that is. The US carriers can't even share the same frequencies like the Europeans do.

Don't get me wrong, I love my N75, but I just don't see Nokia keeping it in their lineup much longer. Why it couldn't have HDSPA is beyond me.

i know i've read most of the bad sales stuff. i'm thinking that it was almost like testing the waters in the US, and that would determine the future. i have heard of the n95 HSDPA rumors as well. i would prob get that phone in an instant if/when it actually happens. i just have these memories when there were 4 GSM bands and phones with only 3 of the 4 bands. finally manufacturers started making quad bands. now here we are back here again with new frequencies.

i honestly believe that had the n75 came with HSDPA it would be a hit. it just makes no sense and is already slower than the moto.

if they really do release some more s60 phones and they come with HSDPA, then i'll shat myself and get one for sure.

My local store that has 3 iphones doesnt even have a N75... sad.

If they discontinue the N75, they better replace it with the N76.

If the N75 hasn't sold well, then maybe it's because it was outdated before AT&T even started selling it, and its target market knew that?

And - no offense to any N75 fans - but it's not exactly a stylish phone, as many high-end phones are. The N76 is a huge improvement, in that regard.

EDIT: And yes, I'm aware that the current N76 doesn't have US 3G bands.

the N75 hasn't sold well because:

1. it's bigger than most people who like flip phones
2. Symbian has a learning curve most people are not used too
3. battery life is horrible without proper conditioning.
4. not marketed as a smartphone, but as a music player?

I love mine, but of course I unbranded it, and got the battery working a little better.

This is a good phone, but I am considering a Treo 750.... any thoughts?

Posted by: zadosha

Depends on how you feel about WM. I could take it or leave it. I personally like S60 better. I'm patiently waiting until my budget allows me to get another good S60 device. I have been intrigued by the 750 because I wanted to see if I liked Palm-flavored WM better than Samsung-flavored. I think that before I buy a Treo 750 though, I'll buy a Nokia E61i.

I do find it funny that at&t doesn't consider the N75 a smartphone. If you look at the rebate requirements, it's the only smartphone device that doesn't require you to sign up for a data plan. What's funny is that I chewed up more data on my N75 that I did on my BlackJack.

Posted by: opdaddy

I wonder if I can exchange my N75 for a Treo, but have them offer me the refurbished price of $99.99.

Posted by: npaladin2000

There's one other possibility: AT&T may be discontinuing it because they realized it's a smartphone.

Nokia may have another phone in the works...maybe something similar to the N76 but with US HSDPA on-board. Or just an upgraded N75 with HSDPA (N77?) Then again, they might give up on the carrier market and stick to selling direct to the customer. But I don't think Nokia is going to even THINK about giving up on the US market...there's just too much money to be made.

I don't think most people mind the size so much. It's NOT that much bigger than a RAZR.

Posted by: RogerPodacter

but they could easily make a razor/super slim phone IN ADDITION to their regular arsonal. thats all i'm saying. it would get them in the game on that front as well and they could continue their n series devices.

i agree there is money to be made in the US market. but thinking about how many handsets they sell worldwide compared to the population of the US, its almost insignificant. the US is only 300 million people out of 6 billion globally. catering to US carriers and awkward frequencies might only be a drop in the bucket for their sales, and not even worth the R&D or whatever. but i dont totally agree with that because all it is is a simple chipset swap. there is no reason why they couldnt make a US equivalent of every single phone they currently sell. i dont see how they would lose money if they just swapped in a US 3G chipset for the n76, n95, n73, etc. i just dont get it.
