(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: genso79

I found the link for the SANYO 8100 on SPRINT"s website

here's how to see the phone on the website :

1) Go to SPRINT PCS website.

2) Click on SHOP for phones

3) open the link for either the SANYO 4900 or the SANYO 5300

4) once that page is open go to the address bar or url

5)it's a long URL start from the begining until you reach the part
that says sanyoscp4900 or sanyoscp5300

6) somwhere in the url there should be sanyoscp4900 or sanyo
scp5300

7)change it to sanyoscp8100

the page should appear will all details about the phone

If it's on the website i think it's coming out monday...

As someone stated in another forum before

Posted by: Jamie Lockhart

link for the lazy

I thought the 8100 was thinner than the 5300! And i thought it had both internal and external TFT displays! Whats going on?!

Posted by: chenyichung

the picture on the sprint website shows the 8100 having two headset jacks, that's funny

yeah i hope that the specs given on the 8100 aren't correct because everything mentioned before was a big rumor.

Posted by: lgmayka

I think it's obvious why people are disappointed, or even suspicious of Sprint's specs. phonescoop.com typically gleans a phone's specs from the authentic documents submitted to the FCC; and phonescoop.com says that the Sanyo 8100 has dual TFT displays and a 640x480 camera:

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=293

I suspect that Sprint's specs are simply incorrect; but if Sprint's specs are true, has the phone been deliberately "dumbed down" (to dual STNs and a 100Kpixel camera) *after* submission of documents to the FCC? I thought that would be illegal.

Posted by: Jamie Lockhart

AND the Sprint Press Release said it had both internal and external 65k TFT screens.

Illegal?

I'm sure the FCC couldn't care less (or do anything for that matter) unless changing the specs would change either wattage output (i.e., radiation levels) or they changed something that disrupted other electronic devices, etc.

That's the only reason they need FCC approval anyways.

Posted by: Aurora

Y'all are flippin over a phone that hasn't even come out yet.

Relax.

Posted by: gsmornot

Everyone is just excited. When you are expecting something and at the last min. it looks like it might be less, your excitement changes. I am with everyone else, I hope Sprint created a page with altered info because Sanyo would not let them post the real specs. until official release. They may have just created the page for launch with the idea they will change the information later. The funny thing is, I am not a Sprint customer but I am excited about this phone as well. I would like to switch to Sprint and this would be the phone of choice based on the original spec. stated elsewhere.

Posted by: Aurora

Understandable.

Posted by: gaucho20

Hi all-

I've been in the market for a vision phone for the past few days, and was excited about the 8100, but somewhat hesitant since the Sprint website quoted a STN screen. Well, today they changed the specs to the TFT screen that they promised in their press release! Who knows what the actual screens will be, but it is a move in the right direction (by the way, the external screen is still only shown as 4K colors).

Posted by: Aurora

My feelings on this phone, STN or TFT screen (doesn't matter) is that it's a great bargain. Just think: the 5150 was selling at it's starting price when it was phased out: I'd be willing to a Sanyo SPCS phone with or without camera any day!

Why the big complaint/hassel?

Posted by: dannydos

maybe someone will have this phone in their hands tomorrow...and give us the correct infor on it, like earpiece voice,if the speaker on the back is any good. if the wallpapers take up the whole screen.

Posted by: ImmerStark

sprint has changed the info on the web site, it now says the phone cas dual tft screens.

Posted by: dannydos

sprint has also changed the specs on the camera from having 100,000 pixels to 60,00 pixels now.

First, I completely agree that this phone is a great bargain. Any Sanyo clamshell with a color screen for $199 is a good deal (and for all those people who want a Vision-enabled 5150, it looks like you've got it). Plus a camera, regardless of how good it is? Yes, it's a great deal. Even without the camera altogether, it'd be a great deal.

But, I have to disagree with you on the TFT/STN thing. After having owned color-screen phones with both STN and TFT screens, I can tell you that there is a huge difference in the experience. Staring at an STN screen after getting used to a TFT screen will really make you appreciate TFT.

That is all. (And it's a moot point anyway since it would appear that it is TFT after all).

This is the Sprint phone to buy for anyone out there who's shopping right now.

Agreed. I've never been able to tell a difference between STN and TFT because I haven't held up two different phones to compare them.

I figure both worked fairly well...guess I stand corrected.

SPECS CHANGE .....

I notice on the SANYO 8100 specs change on sprintpcs web site

I found out that the old specs that they had was a midtake.

They change previous info to:

1) external screen to 4K (TFT)

2) internal screen to 65K (TFT)

3) CIF (camera) 6000 pixels (yayks low quality )

Maybe more stuff will be change if there is more mistake by the

time the phone come out.

Don't worry. You were perfectly right; they do both work quite well.

I'm not saying I have anything terribly against a color screen just because it's STN. I'm just saying that if a person thought that it was going to be TFT and then it turned out to be STN, then they would have a legitimate reason to be disappointed.

Either way, we all seem to agree on this:
The 8100 looks to be a very good phone for a very reasonable price.

I'm glad to see it show up on the Sprint site - even if it isn't officially there - and I'm more convinced than ever that Sprint has it together when it comes to handsets.

All;

If you check Phonescoop, you'll notice that as of a few days ago they had updated their specs to match those on the unpublished Sprint page. More importantly, my corporate Sprint PCS rep shared an internal email with the new specs as well.

Unfortunately, this seems to be one of those cases of something being too good to be true. While the phone is no smaller than the 5300, it is still marginally lighter. To me though, it is still unacceptably thick, so perhaps the A600 come early June???

Look I was so happy to see the 5300 come out only to see that it was as thick as the 5150. Again, I got so happy to see the 8100 come out ONLY to see that it is too thick as well.
What's up with Sanyo. On the one hand they have the world thinnest phone the 6400. The 6000 was even thinner than that. Now they really think we would be happy with a phone that would be shorter than the 5300 and thicker. It would look like a sasuage.
I am really mad. I need a new phone to replace my 5150. But if I get one that looks about the same and same color and just as fat, after one week, I would be tired on the phone.
Now wait until June you say. Oh well.

RE specs

The SCP8100 is smaller than the SCP5300

It is 100,000 not 6,000 or 60,000-> that is a mistake.

S.A.M.

Posted by: vissionare

Its a little shorter. It is not thinner. At least the 5300 is in porportion. The 8100 would look like a sasuage. It should lose the sleek look because it shurk and its still as fat as the 5300. Think about it.
As for the camera that cool any one is fine. We are talking about the size only.
Like the pros said a long time ago. Its a step down from the 5300. Its not really a replacement. Like I said before I could have had the 8100 in the 5300 form a long time ago and I think I would be feeling much better than getting upset from waiting for nothing special but a discount.

If you log into your account then click on "Contact Us" on the top, there's a pic of the Sprint mascot holding the 8100.

Posted by: Shilaeli

The thing I don't get is the name. You know 5000, 5150, 5300... why 8100? I guess the 5000's were always the elite sanyo flips, and now they are making the 8000's which will be more affordable.

definitely going to get this phone in a few days, but kind of sad to lose my 4900s speakerphone. which brings me to this picture of the rear of the 8100 -- the rear speaker looks even bigger than the speakerphone/ringer speaker on the back of my 4900. surely this can't be just for ringers..

Sorry to say it ain't so, but....it ain't so . This same debate was around when the 5300 1st hit the scene.

Maybe just a hole to allow the phone to capture water a little easier, Ha ha.

Let just hope Sanyo and sprint would allow firmware to be written to all the speaker to work as a speakerphone. Its a speaker for something.

It's a speaker for the ringer. That's all.

Here come the rumors again....before the 5300 dropped I heard everything from speakerphone to an exhaust fan! :laughs:

hey guys i heard the 8100 will have a built-in printer

Posted by: sprintpcsuser

Ok...here's my question. If that's a speaker for the ringer, then how come the ringer isn't too loud? According to somebodys review...They commented that the ringer was very soft.

I didn't take that comment too seriously seeing that he couldn't even say whether the earpiece volume was low or not. I wasn't too sure that he actually used the phone.

I'm not going to claim that I'm one of those lucky people that have been able to test or use the 8100 and BS the whole way, but if it's anything like the other two Sanyo phones that I have owned (4900, 5300), and I don't know why it wouldn't be, then I would love to have it. I was very pleased with the performance of the 5300, and the ringer volume was never too soft for me.

Posted by: Jowe11

Oh, Does anyone know if the 8100 will have a feature like the LG 5350 had, the "monitoring" feature? It was kind of like a speaker-phone.

maybe old news, but the sprint pdf users' manual is available for download. i know they're notoriously uninformative, but they usually hit on the main features.

I'm not so sure I would call the 8100 a "step down", although this is, admittedly, a purely subjective appraisal.

I really like the 5300, but every time I open one, it feels poorly balanced and a bit top heavy to me. I tend to think the flash isn't really very functional as in darkness one needs to be within 2-3 feet for the flash to illuminate the subject well, and this is from a friend that owns and loves his trusty 5300.

Personally, I don't need (or want) all the bells and whistles that the 5300 comes equipped with. The 8100 seems to have the features I want in a cell phone that is somewhat smaller (in "height") and at a terrific price.

It may be a "step down for some"... but for others, it may well turn out to be a dependable workhorse cellphone with a slightly smaller form and more in tune with the purchasers needs.

In short, for some, the 5300 might be a bit "extravagant" and a case of "overkill"... but like I said, it's all rather subjective I suppose.

All this said, the 5300 is a terrific piece of technology appealing to a particular market, and the 8100 will, I expect, appeal to it's own particular market, close to, but a bit different from the 5300's purchasers.

I'm just glad we have the choices we have.

Of course, In June, the LG VX6000 comes out! Another damn nice phone! I've been pretty impressed with LG phones, and so have many others, as CNET has NEVER had a 93% favorable opinion of a cellphone before the LG VX4400 (which is a bit too spartan for my wants).

Very true. I would've bought the 8100 if it was out when I was buying my 5300.
