8525 Screen replacement

Hey everyone. I have a Cingular 8525 and the screen got smashed . I called HTC and they said I would have to send it in and give them a credit card number. It would be a minimum charge of $168 but they can't tell me the exact price until they receive and look at it. They said that if after they look at it I don't want to go through with it, they would charge $28 to my card for labor costs to diagnose and ship it back. Anyway, I can buy a brand new screen and digitizer on eBay for around $70-$80 shipped but have no clue how to disassemble the phone and replace the existing screen or what tools I would need to do so. Does anyone know how to do this or have a manual they could share with me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all!

I just got the screen and digitizer replaced on my 8125 by PocketPCTechs for $170.
From what I understand about the repair, minor screen damage may mean that only the digitizer needs to be replace, which would have cost less than $170. In my case, I needed to have both the digitizer and the LCD display replaced.

If you're comfortable with buying these parts from eBay, and if you're comfortable with doing the repair yourself, then I'd say go ahead and save your money and do it yourself.

Initially, I thought of doing that myself. It would've been a rather interesting project. But since my 8125 was primarily my daily-use PDA for business, I just couldn't do without it while waiting for parts to get it fixed. If it were just a phone, I could've just used one of my previous GSM phones as a backup. I don't have a backup PDA yet.

Anyways, for me, PocketPCTechs was a 15-minute drive away. I was able to go there on my way to work, and waited for an hour while they repaired my 8125. I think I was pretty lucky to have PocketPCTechs so close by, and even luckier that I got same-day service.
This was much more convenient for me, although it may have cost me twice as much when compared to doing it mysef.

Cool thanks a lot. These sites look very helpful. I'll be sure to check them out in detail and give it a try!
