New hire as an Assistant Retail Store Manager???

Hello,

I was curious to know how easy it is to get hired on as an Assistant Retail Store Manager? I just recently left VZW after being there for 1.5yrs. I was a Sr. Retail Sales rep over there.

Also what is the pay like for an ARSM?

Thanks in advance!

i can almost assure you without a doubt that you were making more as a sales rep with verizon than you would as an ASM with at&t...3 reps in my store make more than our ASM and we don't get paid even close to what verizon pays

How do you know you guys don't get paid even close to what verizon pays?

because i was told directly by a human resource rep with verizon who was giving me a phone interview the other day, the base pay isn't even comparable...at least in my market. that's how i know

Well after being there for 1.5yrs I was only making $11.10 an hour.....they VZW starts people off at $9.95 an hour or at least they did back in 2005.

You'll stick with Verizon if you know what's good for you. This is definitely one of those times when the grass isn't greener on the other side.

yeah, i guess it depends on the market you're in...my offer was a good bit higher than that. but i'll tell you now, unless at&t has changed since my friend was hired on at the beginning of the year starts people off at less than that

Why didn't you go to Verizon then?

I know Verizon has a higher base pay, but what about the commission? I heard it was tougher at Verizon.

Posted by: vzwfan00

What's the commission pay like for an assistant manager? I'm sure it is based off of the entire store's performance, but is it pretty decent? I know it will always be possible for a sales consultant to make more than the managers, even the store manager, but in general how is it?

i'm waiting on an official offer, the hr rep was just telling me what the base was if you had no education or experience...i have both. the monthly target on commission was a just barely above what at&t has, but the hourly pay isn't even close

What's the difference? 5 dollars?

I mean how much were you getting paid at ATT and how much is Verizon offering as base pay?

i'm getting right at $10 now...with no education, no experience the base offer for verizon in my market is $13...i figure i'd be able to easily get $14.50, very possibly more

there's no way any ARSM or even SM is going to hire an outsider as an ASM. no way....

an ASM has to know the "ins and outs" of the business to perform their duties. this obviously couldn't be done from a rookie.

No I left with another job inline. It's not in the cell industry.....and as it turns out I actually really miss the cell industry. I want to get back in as crazy as that may sound!

I can think of 2 ASMs and 1 SM that were all external candidates that were hired at AT&T mobility in the last 2 months. I don't have a problem with any of these people personally but I can say that I was rather upset about it.

A lot of people who had been with the company for some time had been passed over for these promotions; I think it really sends a bad message to employees who are working hard hoping to get noticed.

I swear to God, if anyone else tells me "Well, you can make more money as a sales rep than you can as a manager!" I'm going to scream "Then why don't you demote yourself?!?".

Yeah they always say that! Even trainers. My ASM said she preffered coaching more than being an RSC. Coaching involves being in the back doing personal calls? The worst thing is there is a zombie rep at my store that will back the ASM 100%.

well an ASM is suppose to be a SM's "right hand man" which means they should be able to run the ship at any given time.

so how the hell can a newbie run a ship that they've never set sail on?

oh well, whatever... I know that my buddy's local ARSM would never think about having someone from the outside leading such an important role when it comes to filling an ASM's shoes.

I guess that's why different areas have different views....

Its true to a certain degree.. I interviewed for two different ASM positions with AT&T after leaving T-Mobile and got up to the final pick @ both stores.. they both went with the internal canidate. i said Fu%^ it and joined as a rep. Went through New Hire training with a new manager from my area and 3 months later i'm his new ASM. Funny how life goes sometime.. BTW the new hire trainer said it would NEVER happen.. showed her (she almost threw me out of training because i told her HSDPA was faster then UMTS and she made the mistake of saying i was wrong)
