It uses freeware VNC on your computer and a J2ME midlet you load on your phone {network aware - needs to be loaded with WebJal or ICJal and requires PacketStream Gold (or Power Apps) to connect}. Costs $16 - one time fee. It works rather well. It has "slow" response - but the ability to control my computer from my phone is pretty awesome! More detail on Active Viewer: Do you have VNC loaded on your computer? If not, you probably want to do that and access it from another person's computer before you try working with Active Viewer on your phone. When using Active Viewer on your phone, you have fairly slow response (mostly limited by Nextel's connection speed) that you may not feel is worth the trouble. You also only see a portion of the computer's screen on your phone (you have to move the "focus area" around to see the segment of your computer screen you want). If you want to try VNC on your computer, you can download it for free at: http://www.realvnc.com/ Try it. If you like it, THEN go through the process of buying Active Viewer. If you are into a better quality, faster response time when accessing your computer from another person's computer, try "Remote Admin". It costs $35, but the speed is worth it. Unfortunately, they do NOT have a J2ME version of it yet. You can do a free demo of Radmin at: http://www.radmin.com/default.html |
